no, he doesnt.

exercising your rights doesnt require a "right" reason. You can just do it.

I hear your point, but this is not about government takeover, this about a punk with an agenda being a problem for Cops for the hell of it. This is an extreme argument and not justified.

I am not sure of the legal question here

Here is the problem. However, the cop new the legal question, that is why he did NOT arrest him.

quote:

.It doesn't have to be unlawful to get the "Get out of here" rebuke and that be the right thing to do "Get out, you're not helping"

Dude, the cop enforces the law. It DOES have to be illegal for the cop to impede you.

Disrespect must be confronted...

Police are charged with confronting illegal activities, not disrespect. BTW: what about disrespect FROM cops?

do we want all citizens to feel comfortable disrespecting authority? no

Why not?

I would disagree with you. I think it is beneficial.

LOL, he is hiding behind legal activities?

As American police forces continue toward a trend of becoming more and more militarized; as their power to search, spy, confiscate, detain, and question is expanded beyond the limits of the constitution as originally drafted; I'm glad to see that many in this thread are chiefly concerned with ensuring that the police force isn't video taped and that their power not be checked in any way.

The men in blue largely do a good job at a tough job, but their position rightly should subject them to the highest level of scrutiny and skepticism.

Good parenting does not equate to good policing. Police are not our parents charged with our upbringing they are charged with enforcing the law.

See the difference?

Cops serve the Public.

If anything, you have the whole situation backwards.

So you're saying you do want cops to fight disrespect? How about dress codes too? As long as we're going down this road.

If anyone was wondering why we have things like first amendment "zones;" fighting words; commercial speech being subject to less protection; campaign contribution limits; and time, place, and manner restrictions, it is because "Congress shall make no law . . . abridging the freedom of speech . . ." was subjected to the reasoning underpinning the quoted passage.

Yeah, ok. LOL.

Very few tickets and never had a run in with the law. I have only one bad encounter with the police. They asked me if I wanted to be arrested like my buddy they were harassing. I told them sure, if I have broken the law. I was not arrested.

You are goofy if you think I am going to respond to your personal questions.

Who I am has nothing to do with how cops should be conduction themselves.

Because they serve the public, I don't' want idiots freakin with them just for giggles.

It's a two way street.. They serve us..and because they do, we should treat with them respect and do what we can to make their job a little easier versus more difficult.

Can't read through ten pages of this thread but what the frick is it with this new generation trying to provoke cops on camera and then acting so smugly like they've been at home poring over law books and now have knowledge of all kinds of statutes that cops are not aware of? Why is this a thing?

Maybe police departments should spend more money educating cops in the law and less on fancy weapons and gear so they can play soldier.

quote:

Some cops are bad at their jobs. You can find that in any field anywhere. Most are trying to do what they're supposed to do, ie protect people.

In other fields when someone is unsuited for the job they are told to find a new career, in police departments they are protected at all cost.

quote:

If these douchebags are trying to undermine the oh-so-oppressive American police force or something, I say we round them up and send them to Somalia so they can see what life is like without legitimate police.

I am sure the police departments of the nation would like nothing better, they could then use their MRAPS, APCs, MP4s, and all the other tactical gear taxpayer money has been wasted on.

My experience on this board over cop stories is that people who take your position have had issues with police.

I've always shown respect and it's always gone well for me in those very few instances.

hopefully that continues to be the case. if you find yourself in a stressful hectic situation, hopefully the officer you are dealing with believes you are giving him the respect he deserves.

ive never had a bad experience myself either... but that track record can turn south quick if we lower our expectations of police in these situations.

I do not disagree with this, but SHOULD does not equate to LAW. Because you and I THINK someone should do something, does not mean that people that disagree with us should have their rights infringed upon.
