Add all that up and the 80 billion doesn't seem quite so big IMO.

And even if, within this already tiny subset of planets, the odds of harboring life are 1 in a million, then you've got 80,000 planets with life. Still a small number?

We're talking about billions of potential planets right? I'm saying if it's overwhelmingly likely that there are other intelligent beings, then it's overwhelmingly likely that there are a significant number of them with any manners of dispositions. Seems inevitable one with a thirst and ability to destroy the rest would have evolved.

I think one in a million is a low estimate although it is an impossible figure to calculate. That's like saying life naturally springing forth and reaching intelligence is much more likely than winning the lottery.

Also - it has already happened once, so you have to account for the one known occurrence in any sort of discussion.

All in all I don't think its impossible that we are alone nor that there is intelligent life. So I like to assume its a 50/50 shot that there is other intelligent life out there.

The Drake equation has been putting this number higher and higher as planets are discover...

There is a star system several light years away with 5 planets in the goldilocks zone...

5 planets that could potentially support life in 1 system...

We are 1/3...most systems would be close to that ratio...

The number of habital planets just within a 1000 light years radius becomes astonishing

The hypothesis of "seeding" is a thing...it doesn't have to crawl from the muck

Tell me about this hypothesis - I am simply assuming based on the name it is the idea of intelligent life putting the building blocks in place (Prometheus style). But that necessitates intelligent life to already be existing correct? So that original form of life would have to crawl from the muck (at least in my understanding).

Scientist can't decide if eggs and milk are good for you are not... How in the hell do they know a damn thing about life that is light years away from our solar system ?

Nothing against your post, just saying... we don't know if there are aliens living in our oceans much less tens of billions of miles from here. These MFs make shite up and feed it to us knowing no one has a way to debunk it.

Do you even math/statistics, bro?

the problem with those statistics is that we can only estimate the numbers for half of the formula...

Anyone find it interesting that NASA was forced to debunk a 4chan youtube video?

Smoke and fire, IMO.

just within a 1000 light years

Translation: No way possible to get there from here. The trip will take well over 1000 years to get there. More like 10,000 if interstellar propulsion technology advances as predicted.

To put it in perspective - 10,000 years ago humans were still in the stone age.

quite well actually. there has to be some base knowledge behind the variables to create an accurate equation/algorithm. Hence, my point.

I hope these aliens never visited the ghettos in The City of New Orleans!

Well we better hope they want to get along with us. If they have the ability to come here, they will have technology that FAR exceeds anything we have. A fight with them would not be like Independence Day.

We would stand no chance. It would be like a cave man fighting an F22 fighter.

I wouldnt care. If they want to come here and wreck shop let them. It would be a reset button on this whole mess. I would at least hope to see the aliens before I perished though.

I'm not 100% sure on that hypothesis, but I don't think it necessarily requires intelligent life placing the seeds of life here on Earth, but it could be that they got here via asteroid or something like that
