This quote always stuck with me:
quote:
When life becomes too complicated and we feel overwhelmed, it’s often useful just to stand back and remind ourselves of our overall purpose, our overall goal. When faced with a feeling of stagnation and confusion, it may be helpful to take an hour, an afternoon, or even several days to simply reflect on what it is that will truly bring us happiness, and then reset our priorities on the basis of that. This can put our life back in proper context, allow a fresh perspective, and enable us to see which direction to take. Dalai Lama XIV, The Art of Happiness: A Handbook for Living

I used to fly off the handle at tons of things. Broken my hands too many times to count from fights to metal doors. I grew up and became an adult so it doesn't happen anymore

You're a good guy (no homo).

I kicked a car door in 2 weekends ago before I knew I did it. a-hole driving down a very crowded street clipped my arm with my 3 year old on my shoulders after a parade. It was pure reaction and almost got my arse kicked.
ETA: I was a hot headed kid but haven't done anything like that in many many years.

I had a friend who never took much crap off anyone. A few years back, a simple road rage event escalated and he ended up being sentenced to 50 years in Angola....he will never see freedom again.
if you have an issue with anger, don't ignore it.

There needs to be a league started that combines basketball played like football with liberal timeouts for MMA, or some fight club action.
Aggressive fouling is encouraged. If your opponent doesn't like the foul you committed a timeout is called while you scrap for 30 seconds. Then back to the game.
It would be the perfect outlet for aggression and you would cut your road rage by 90%.
It would be way better than Owlie pulling his chode out for his little roadside squabble.

2 fights in 2 years isn't an anger management problem.

quote:I had a lot of consequences. They just stop mattering after a while.
At some critical point in your upbringing you weren't given proper consequences for this repulsive behavior.
It's not something you understand tbh. People can tell you all of these things to do, but you cannot change your natural instincts and first impulse. Maybe a few seconds later, but not immediately. For me, it just takes time for me to snap out of it. That duration all depends on the seriousness
I'll give you an example of a recent time:
I was writing a paper. Almost finished up, and my keyboard started acting up. After a few times of it fricking up, I smashed it on the table. That was all over the period of maybe 7 seconds. It probably just needed new batteries.
Typing
frick
Rage
Smash

See you at the Sonic MFer! And you should see my huge fricking knuckles and big arse hands!

quote:You whip it out!!!
Then he kept saying, "Pull it out, motherfricker! Pull it out!"
Not that I was a fighter before, I wasn't...but since I have kids I go out of my way to avoid trouble with anyone acting up or trying to stir up shite like that. That's obvious when they're with me but I do the same when they're not with me. Too many crazy people out there, not worth dying over something so dumb.

Once every couple of years is not much of a problem.
