it doesnt cost that much

i was just saying, for some people 10k isnt that much money, to others on the OT its a shite ton

its about perspective

some of these guys have no problem spending 10k on a hunting trip but would freak about spending it on their kids

Or maybe the idea of spending $3000 for 6-12 year old baseball is sort of stupid.

guess the point went over some of yalls head. i spend less than 2500 for 2 of mine to play

the point was that because a kid wants to play baseball at a high level and the parent provides the resources and encouragement to play and pursue his passions doesnt make the person unintelligent like the poster claimed. i know plenty in travel ball were 100k is nothing to them. Not claiming its not to me, its the point that people of all kinds of economic backgrounds allow their kids to play and follow thier passion

no different than someone getting their kid the resources to be the best band player they can be or best computer programmer etc if that is thier passion

Poor little guy just wants to come home, sip a juice box, work on some multiplication tables, and catch an episode of Bluey before bed.

Nope! Get your arse in the backyard for hitting practice! Your daddy’s got insecurity issues that can only be alleviated by living vicariously through you, junior!

is the idea of spending 6k on a disney trip sort of stupid?

is the idea of spending 12k a year for private tuition vs public school sort of stupid?

i need you to detail me all the ideas of stupid before i spend another 15k+ next year on baseball and softball.

maybe but it doesnt cost 3k either.

but also understand by 12 at the very latest and i mean very latest....they are so far behind, the chances of them ever catching up are slim. there are a few exceptions where they have been blessed with crazy size but its very rare.

So I have this right, you're equating your child's education costs to travel ball spending?

I know a couple who regularly sells plasma to afford their daughter’s softball equipment (bag, gloves, bat etc.)

Dad is a plant manager, mom is an “administrative assistant” in Huntsville. He drives a Sierra 1500 and she’s got the Yukon Denali.

It’d be hilarious if it weren’t so sad.

the second you add a "world series" trip from the ages of 7-12 yrs old, you're well north of 3k a yr.

yep spending 30 grand for my kids to go to private school is dumb AF

all the vacations we take are just a waste, dunno why i just went to Hawaii and have all the other trips planned.

its just memories...why the frick am i paying for all this?

i could be at the hunting camp doing the important things like drinking beer on the porch and getting black out drunk according to the OT

$2700 would be on the upper end of most travel ball organizations even today.

Not in BR. My oldest's coach decided he no longer wanted to coach (rec league) the team. So we were scrambling to find a new team. One of the local tournament/travel teams had an opening so inquired about it. Said the tournaments weren't too far away, hammond might have been the farthest they go. I think he said they played in 5 or so tournaments. Dues were $1800. That didn't include the matching bat bags, uniforms, etc... which he said was around $500. $2300 for fricking baseball for an 8 year old. I asked my son how much he liked baseball and he said "medium" so that definitely made the choice easy. I called him up and politely declined.

I loathe what travel ball has done to youth sports. When i was a kid, it was rec league, then school sports. None of this travel shite. Now it's an arms race of who can spend the most money on sports teams. And it isn't just baseball. It's basketball, soccer, swim, cheerleading. Baseball started this money grab and every youth sport after has copied it.

in certain circumstances when the public school is more than good enough. people lots of times are paying for prestige/status/ and clout when sending kids to private schools.

i know. families can spend more money taking their kids to chuckie cheese and laser tag twice a month than what most normal folk spend on "travel ball" at those ages.
