I don't smoke and use MJ in any capacity and I am all for legalization. I just don't see the point in spending a shite ton of money just so a 20 year old college kid can't get high and play video games

I've been saying it for years, those Congo kids can't handle their weed

some of those store bought edibles are seriously strong.
I ate a piece of one a few years ago and I was completely blown away. It was like I took a couple tabs of acid.

So what about this incident seems like propaganda?
19 yr old uses MJ and then exhibits known side effects, he was witnessed as having those side effects as described by first hand account of friends, then irrationally jumps from a window.
They tested for other psychoactive substances and found none. His blood level of MJ was above the limit of intoxication for the drug.
LINK
The intoxicating effects of marijuana include relaxation, sleepiness, and mild euphoria (getting high).
Smoking marijuana leads to fast and predictable signs and symptoms. Eating marijuana can cause slower, and sometimes less predictable effects.
Marijuana can cause undesirable side effects, which increase with higher doses. These side effects include:
•Decreased short-term memory
•Dry mouth
•Impaired perception and motor skills
•Red eyes
More serious side effects include panic, paranoia, or acute psychosis, which may be more common with new users or in those who already have a psychiatric disease.
The amount and effect of these side effects varies from person to person, as well as with the amount of marijuana used.
Sure other things cause more deaths but this appears to be fair and accurate reporting of an accidental death related to MJ use.

But, but, but... What about alcohol?!?! Yes, marijuana can cause people to do stupid things that may lead to harm or even death. There's no need to deflect blame onto alcohol.

I guess its hard for us to believe since none of us have ever felt or seen anything remotely similar to his reaction. And there are some real stoners here.

You're all in on the marijuana shite these days. How invested are you?

contrasting and comparing science to anecdotal evidence is not very useful. Especially when you are trying to negate a more rare side effect by noting it is not common in your non randomized small patient group.
When you extrapolate the per user incidence of that relatively rare side effect and compare it to per dose incidence of chronic users you further skew the data. Persons experiencing such side effects are unlikely to use again. Since the SE is rare and the total episodes of dosing is drastically reduced in those experiencing the SE it would not be unusual to have never personally witnessed such an event.
In this particular case the likely hood of re dosing and thus repeat SE is 0

To be fair, I took some pot once and ended up throwing myself off my back door stoop.
Hurt like a motherfricker.

Yes I know I'm all anecdotal. But I've smoked hundreds of times with prob hundreds of people and never saw anything like this, and I've never heard of anyone else who has seen a pot reaction like this either. Apparently it did happen to this guy, but its still hard to believe.
But shite, some people can die from eating peanut butter so anything can happen. The problem is, politicians will take this one weird occurrence and use it to fight legalization. It was only recently that people were seriously citing that fake article about the pot overdoses.

He probably wasn't very experienced and got way too high off that brownie then freaked out. It's not that unbelievable.

I've seen people with ptsd and off their meds move up to another level of crazy when they get high/drunk.

The potential to take one case out of context is there I agree.
But to use your example of peanut butter how many people have you seen have an anaphylactic reaction to peanuts? How many 1000's of times have you eaten foods with peanuts in em and how many 1000's of people have you known that have done the same perfectly fine. Yet most day cares and now some schools prohibit any outside food due to fear of food allergies most notably peanut.
