One thing people don't talk about much is the difference between babies with a black father and white mother vs. babies where that's reversed. There really aren't that many examples of the latter, but in my anecdotal experience children of such a pairing tend to be very different from your typical mixed black/white baby.

It's kind of like a mule vs. a hinny. You want the mother to come from big, hardy stock and have a big womb so the offspring can reach its full potential.
