Here is a local argument for not closing crap down.

Lake Charles has 200,000 people and I’ve been told there are a ton of people that have carona but haven’t got tested. We’re at risk for hospital resources being used. There are like 30-40 ventilators in the city between all the hospitals. Say there are 350-400 rooms total across all 4 area hospitals.

If there is a 5% infection rate currently in LC, that means 10,000 infected. I know for a fact the following: 1 dead, 6 pending cases in ICUs.

Of the 10,000 cases in LC, 7 are ICU or dead. The hospitalization rate is .0007 for infected.

Think about that. We closed everything down for .0007% population rate.

People can get mad all they want but this is absolute overblown absurdity at its finest. This isn’t hemorrhagic fever.

Okay. Well let's say each hospital has 100 beds and on average they have 95 of those beds filled. Then you throw in the coronavirus numbers. If 10k are infected, even if 25 of the 10k need to be hospitalized then there would not be enough beds. 5 people will not be able to receive hospital care.

And if tons of people already have it and haven't been tested positive, then it has likely spread and there will be even more people who will get it.

When that happens and those people can't receive the treatment they need to survive it there will be more relatively healthy middle aged and younger people die.

Absolutely ridiculous that we cannot have a quarantine for at risk individuals.

The problem is that you would like to think that the at risk group is some fringe minority.

More than 40% of Americans have an underlying condition associated with comorbidity of coronavirus.

Then you gotta figure that people not in that percentage live with those that are, so figure 70-80% affected.

How is that functionally any different?
