Not really. Going on a year for me no problems. My buddy ryanoz has had one since 2008 never had an issue.

OP is an idiot. Amazon uses "verified purchasers" as part of their review system. meaning they bought the item

You don't say. Wow I never knew that.
more amazon review hijinks.. this time they delete verified purchase reviews
quote:
I am not saying every review is valid. I am saying "verified purchasers" who don't cuss or act like an idiot and give reason's should not be removed. To remove them looks like something is going on that is un-ethical. Its Amazons site they can do as they please but don't bother having reviews if your going to deceive people.

If I don't already know what I'm buying and just getting it cheapest there - which is one of the main benefits of amazon that I think y'all are forgetting - then I read most of the reviews
Then likely you're reading nothing more than marketing hot air

The Daily Mail reported on the no-longer hidden hiring of writers by marketing companies to write and post positive reviews of books and other products and services on Amazon and other websites.[49]
A study at Cornell University in that year[50] asserted that 85% of Amazon’s high-status consumer reviewers “had received free products from publishers, agents, authors and manufacturers.”
85%

They can be gamed so easily it's ridiculous. Has anyone followed this story about the mediabridge router?
Some reviews will have a "verified purchase" tag next to it. It seems like they should have a way to show just the verified purchaser reviews.

True. We all like a good laugh now and then, but Amazon should do more to make sure reviews posted are valid and real.

CAD, reviews on a lot of websites are bullshite. There are actual companies that charge to post good reviews. You must know that right?
You have to do your due diligence and find out about a product and then make your purchase. You honestly just read reviews and purchase based on that alone? If so, you deserve whatever you get.
At a minimum I'll ask on here and try to get honest opinions but usually ask friends/family or go see the product first hand before buying off of amazon.

Regarding verified purchasers, I ran into something just last week while I was shopping for a toner cartridge. I found a rebuilt one with five stars and a really good price. Only one review, but it was from a verified purchaser. I clicked to look at the other reviews that this purchaser had made. Guess what? The only things he had ever reviewed were all the different brands of cartridges sold by this one company. Obviously they were ordering one of their own products and then submitting a verified purchaser review. Amazon has every right to remove something like that. Caveat emptor.

I bought one of those Lepai Tripath cheap tiny Chinese amps on there. It has a gazillion good reviews, and they're probably massively faked, BUT, while the power source it comes with is too small (use an old one from a laptop or buy one for cheap online) with the proper current it ROCKS. Best value known to man. So some of those over-rated products are actually still pretty good values.

Seriously. I really don't know what people expect in this regard. People's identities get stolen online, but they want Amazon to have 100% real reviews?

right, but very few have the clout of amazon.
do me a favor as an experiment. go to GOOGLE or BING and search for [any product you want reviews on] and count how many pages you have to get through before you find reviews NOT sponsored by amazon.
amazon is effectively 3-4 pages of ADS for search engines now.
its even tougher with weird products like that mediabridge router. you cant find it anywhere else, but you go to buy a router from amazon because thats where you think you'll find a good deal.
you search the product category and suddenly this shitty little no-name router has SEVEN THOUSAND FOUR HUNDRED reviews and enough 5-star 'verified purchasers' to make you feel solid about buying it.
yet it exists NOWHERE else.
then the house of cards comes crashing down when it comes out this company MADE UP that whole category killer by hiring some very slick marketing types to write up VERIFIED PURCHASE reviews..then vote that shite to the top as 'most helpful'.
its masterful...and also scary how easy it was for this to become the 'category killer' only to find it yanked unceremoniously from amazon once the heat got too hot..make no mistake..amazon doesn't want the type of probing questions this "no name" router sold to MILLIONS of people is going to start generating now.
lots of questions about this.
then there's the 'bedroom sheets' category killer. SAME EXACT THING. 1500 count sheets dominate the first 2-3 pages of amazon in reviews...but its some complete shite product by some UNKNOWN company that is basically paying the 'verified purcahers' to vote it up.
it stinks and y'all just wont admit it.

see my comment about how amazon 'reviews' dominate page after page of google or bing searches.
you cant find alternate reviews of any product these days due to amazon's oversaturation of the search results.
do you disagree?
particularly when time and time again..these 'top products' at amazon don't exist anywhere else in the world.
how the hell are you going to cross check those amazon reviews when everything you find in a google search is a circle jerk that brings you right back to amazon.
protip: add '-amazon.com' to all your google searches and you'll be amazed at how different your search results suddenly become.
