3rd party vendors do not charge sales tax and many are listed as a Prime option.

Yep, still no sales tax on lots of items.

Good. It's about time these guys start playing by the same rules as everyone else. I don't like paying extra in sales tax, but I also don't like it when my friend's shop has to charge it but Bezos gets to skip out on it.

It's not so simple. We don't have Federal sales taxes. If I'm selling from Louisiana to an instate resident, then of course I would charge state sales tax, but how about to someone in the other 49 states. It would create a cluster frick of e-commerce stores having to track and pay taxes to each individual state where the purchase was made. Your friend charges tax because he has nexus in the state and is selling in-state.

Not a cluster to pay sales tax. Easy software already available to split it to the states. Evens an unfair playing surface for in-state merchants, e-commerce or storefront.

Actually, Wallyworld was not the beneficiary. The local smaller shops are.

Bottomline is that Amazon is making money off charging me sales tax. To the tune of 25% of the tax collected. Incredible windfall. I could see a small return for credit, but 2% of the total 8%??

Thats any business that collects sales tax and pays on time. Ive done it in Arkansas for years. I pay my sales tax on time, i get a 2% discount for doing the states work for them.

Its pretty simple and standard in most all states. This isn't special to amazon.

You sure that is the discount? Or is it 2 percent of 100 percent of what they collect.

Two percent makes sense. 25 percent sounds crazy.
