Do you really believe that war was over slavery?

it absolutely, unequivocally was....

that "state's right" they were looking to protect was the state's right to own slaves as property... go read any one of the articles of secession... it's pretty plain to see what they were seeking to protect... i'm not saying there weren't other factors, but the overwhelming and essential issue was slavery.... are we really contesting this?

Or possibly the natural resources that the south had to offer.

such as what? the north had the majority of the coal, copper, and iron... the main oil producing region at the time was in western PA, down to OH, KY, and western VA...

cotton wasn't worth shite without manufacturing capability, which the North overwhelming dominated....

Even in the agricultural sector, Northern farmers were out-producing their southern counterparts in several important areas, as Southern agriculture remained labor intensive while northern agriculture became increasingly mechanized. By 1860, the free states had nearly twice the value of farm machinery per acre and per farm worker as did the slave states, leading to increased productivity. As a result, in 1860, the Northern states produced half of the nation's corn, four-fifths of its wheat, and seven-eighths of its oats.

Oh they were going to lose out on a lot. Lumber tobacco, the real oil, and plenty of other things.

No way 500,000 people died for just blacks.

They died for the same reason all men die in war. Because someone else told them to and they were shamed into dying for someone else's cause.

Everyone that keeps talking about this "civil war."

What kind of war are you expecting? There are fights between groups of people. Who is going to fight this "civil war" and what are they going to fight with? Have you SEEN these Antifa pussies? There are only so many thug life 4 ever dudes in the ghettos. Are they gonna go house to house and take prisoners?

Then, what happens if the US military got involved? Those type of social groups would literally shite their pants in fear.

There will be no "civil war." All these is going to be is a bunch of fighting until someone brings an automatic rifle to one of these protests and clips 50 people. Then people are going to look at themselves in the mirror.

it wasn't just owning slaves just to own them... that's not what chattel slavery was about... it was means to an end, and free labor to aid in production... it wasn't a fricking hobby, it was an industry, and THAT'S why they fought so hard to keep it...
but at the end of the day it was wrong... i mean, c'mon... you owned another human being for forced labor... how are you defending this??

i like you Clint, and me and you have a similar history in terms of personal demons of the prescriptive kind, but dude.... do you really not view the owning of slaves as a wrong thing to do?

And all wars are the same. It's like magic, political campaigns or kung fu..one hand lies and distracts your eye, while the other hand tells the truth.

The people in charge know that people need a reason to want to fight. Now, let's say it was just because of slavery. If that is true, then 500,000 dead is a debt more than paid.

why is it we can't take a look in the mirror BEFORE it comes to this? wouldn't that be a novel concept?

I'm half-arse trolling, too many race threads these days. Killing time, waiting for it to cool off before I start mowing and looking forward to GOT.

I'm half-arse trolling,

trolling is fun, at times, but just IMO, a race thread isn't a place for it... and it because your words on this screen is all that people know of you, for the most part... i wouldn't want to and i wouldn't want you to be labeled as a racist for something you were joking about, but taken as gospel by someone else...

i mean you do you, but you are too good a dude to have that happen to...

waiting for it to cool off before I start mowing

good luck with that... i was gonna mow yesterday afternoon, but it started storming... and my backyard is a fricking disaster and holds water all over the place, so i'll have to wait another 2 or 3 days for it dry out before i can even think of mowing... i need a truck load of dirt.... got any recommendations for the geismar area?

It's just so plentiful on TD, like..if you are bored and need an hour or two to kill, a race thread in late 2017 won't disappoint.

Like I said before, I like to take the perspective of a late 1990s wrestling heel. Say things that can be easily argued and countered, but the real challenge is to spin it and get in cheap pops.

My yard is saturated, but it's too high to let continue. I know my tires are going to rut it up in some places.

I do know in some cemeteries, there are piles of loose dirt stacked off to the side somewhere for the caretakers to fill in graves when they sink. If you feel like DIY, night is the best time to make a run.

It's not a novel concept for normal, working Americans like you and I. These people that are in the middle of this ridiculous shite that's going on now have mental issues. So novel concepts aren't in their vocabulary

i know, but still... just take heed... that's all i'm saying...

me too... i'm not off again till Thursday, so if i can, i'm gonna try to get someone to cut it for a reasonable price... it's a 1/2 acre lot, so i'm thinking probably $70 to 80, in that range...

smh...

it may be too big a job for a DIY... the builder, who shall remain nameless and who i hope rots in hell, didn't level out the backyard, and it slopes straight to my back patio... i had to get drains put in a few feet off the patio just to have some relief, but it's all fricked up back there... i'm gonna address it in the winter, but for now i'm just trying to maintain sanity every time i cut the grass....
