I have heard LSU is seriously considering this. One of the reasons is they don't want the students to go home at Thanksgiving, get the Corona, and come back for three weeks and give it to everybody. Go home, get it, and stay home sick until Christmas is over.

Notre Dame came out in front with this plan and it seems to work for pretty much everything. Get the kids back in school and go back to normal in spring if nothing surprising happens in the fall.

Not necessarily true. I've had students who have looked at going CC but their gen ed won't transfer in, especially if it's an out of state school from the CC they'll be attending.
The point is, the OP's suggestion is a good one but entirely dependent on the situation. And people should probably make sure things will transfer before they make that kind of decision.

IMHO, the effort would be better placed in killing the Student Loan programs which have enabled bullshite degree profit centers. SallySue wants a degree for a hobby-like skill——-SallySue writes a check. Tuition and fees will drop when schools stop getting this roundabout government titsuck and the world will have less social engineering from self indulgent crap.
