You're not a burden to me. If you'll look up, you'll see the point sailing over your head. Give it a wave.

My one contention, and I shared this with the counselors and my family, and everyone in the room, was the labeling it a disease. No one could ever give, in my opinion, a true justification for that, except for, well, the AMA defines it as one. I felt like it lessened the responsibility of the addict. And in my case, it did. The alcoholic hid behind the disease aspect.

Just wanted you to know, that's the angle I'm coming from. I've seen the struggle, and know it's not easy at all.

Wow a real answer, too bad your opinion doesn't matter because you weren't ever a brain damaged addict

Well, it's really nothing to hide behind and actually (to me) would be socially unacceptable to do so.

In the end, I wasn't drinking to get drunk or feel high. I was drinking to not be sick. Not even to feel normal, just not puke, shake, etc.

She's trying to get me addicted as well. I told that bitch, don't give me your nasty disease. And she constantly describes how she would kill me and get away with it. But most importantly, she tells me if she's ever murdered, that I DO NOT give them shitty pictures of her from bad angle, holding beer cans, with greasy hair. I have promised to go through and only provide Investigation ID photos of her where she is semi-attractive and not trashy looking. That's her biggest fear, shitty pictures released to the public, or getting murdered while masturbating and eating a tub of ice cream. And that being the main theme of the show.

It has signs and symptoms, it's progressive, and it's treatable. It fits the definition really well.

It sucks when the person doesn't want help and want to accept responsibility. Part of the issue is using whatever to escape responsibility. That's the dream. And until that delusion is smashed, no real progress can be made.

You wouldn't believe any evidence that bursts your little belief.

Don't ever talk to that Keith Morrison guy. He acts like he's your friend, but I've seen him in action. He's an assassin.

Mine was a little different. They would quit because of the issues it was causing with all of their relationships. And the reason they gave for drinking was "drinking is no different than taking medicine. I have a disease. Alcohol makes the pain go away. Why is it ok to take medicine that stops pain, but not drink alcohol to stop the pain (mental and physical)"

The person was extremely, extremely smart. Knew better. But it made it easier for him to lie to himself knowing he had a disease.

signs and symptoms: Drinking
Progressiveness: As you drink more often, you must consume more and more to get drunk or to "your level"
Treatable: stop it

Child who is neglected at home
Signs and symptoms: acting out in school
Progressiveness: continually acts out with more and more destructive behavior
Treatable: mom and dad start being parents

Is that a disease too?

I can understand your point. If they're using the label as a disease as a Crutch or something to hide behind, they truly don't want to be sober and clean up their side of the street. I'm just letting you know I don't get hung up on the concept of the label as a disease. It doesn't matter to me because I know I'm fricked up
