How does a wheel just come off a vehicle? Are you that sorry of an owner you don’t notice loose or missing lug nuts? Never check their tightness periodically? Never wash your vehicle and notice how the lugs look? Or did you put spacers and didn’t think to get longer lug nuts?

Majority of people never do this

Did this really need a new topic?

It happens when the tire guy skips “lug nut day” at tire college.

Called hub extenders. Should be illegal with time in jail for people who use them.
That and rim shims.

My wife (no pics) had new tires put on her car, and the wheel almost flew off the car while she was driving the Causeway. The car started shaking violently. Thankfully it happened close to the southshore, so she was able to get off the Causeway and pull over.
When I got to her there was only one lug left on the wheel that was hanging on by a thread. The dipshit at Goodyear either neglected to completely tighten all the nuts, or just didn't put all of them on.
I know a guy, his whole wheel hub came off. He took good care of his car, but it was just a freak accident.

I drove from Millerville to Corporate & back on i12 with 1 lug nut. Didn’t start making noise til I got back to my apt & was turning the wheel. Dadonk, dadonk, dadonk. I stop, look all under the car & shite…then finally see it.
So to answer the question of “how?”…the answer is “cause thug dindu POS trying to steal wheels but couldn’t get the lock nut off”

Wheel bearings

obviously you have no clue that wheel bearings are now all bolt on parts, that can come apart, and send your wheel, with the brakes, and rotor, still attached, flying off at speed.
its shocking it doesnt happen more often but most times its never recorded, you just got to go into the swamp to get your wheel back while you wait for the tow truck.
i was following a work truck one day and the rear axle let lose of the right side and i watched it slide off and go into the canal on the side of the road. dont know how the guy couldnt tell, but he sure as hell knew the moment the rear end dropped to the pavement in a shower of sparks

I don’t understand how you can accomplish the tires to extend well beyond the body of the vehicle. Yes….I know I’m old.
I’m hearing spacers and hub extenders. Are they one solid piece that fits behind the drum? Are longer lug nuts needed? Is there a greater risk for tires to fall off due to this remediation?

When was the last time you walked around your car and did a full inspection of the lugnuts on your tires?
*your BS answer that you’re going to throw out to save face here*
Liar.

the spacers are anywhere from 1" to 3" thick
they bolt onto the vehicle like the wheel normally would, they are made so they have lugs sticking out the same as your vehicle did for the stock rims, so thats how the spacer connects and then the spacer, usually made of aluminum, is what holds your wheels on the vehicle
this is a good look at them LINK

Thanks keakar. I understand now. I’ve seen some tires that project well beyond 3”..….they must use either thicker spacers or stack them together.
Does it have any practical use at all? Does it help to corner curves better due to a wider footprint? Or is just purely for looks?.

FU prominentwon…I hand wash my vehicle weekly and I use a lug brush to clean that area so I see my lugs weekly. I check torque on them every month or so. It ain’t that hard to do.

and they make them 3" thick and i have seen 6" ones but im not sure if it was two 3" put together.
its a definite weak point that people purposely install just for looks, just like some idiots will squat their trucks
