The dust is so thick in my house I'm almost afraid to breathe. I've looked into air purifiers before but reviews always seem mixed. Anyone have a good one that makes a noticeable difference? Or should I just hire a Mexican or find a less lazy wife to tackle the dust issue?

If you get a decent one, they help. Filters are often expensive (like damn ink printers) and hard to find so get a few extra ones just in case and keep the stock/item no. of the filter to reorder.

The size room determines the size machine. Close the bedroom door at night or even around the clock if you plan on leaving it in the bedroom and you'll notice a difference.

Clean the pre-filter often, change the filter as needed.

I'm no expert in this, & I know there is a difference between the 2, but I recently got myself an air circulator, and it feels like it drops the temp a few degrees and the air doesn't feel stale FWIW

We really enjoy our air purifiers. We have a large one for the master suite and a smaller one for the laundry room and mud room. I would suggest getting your ducts cleaned thoroughly, by nice filters for your house units, then get an air purifier.

We use the Holmes HEPA ones and they are awesome.

I have a Kenmore that I got from Sears. It's been working non-stop for a couple of years. It sucks up the dust and reduces the amount of dusting that has to be done. It also absorbs any smells so, don't count on candles or home fragrances to work.

Had a 3M purifier. It did an okay job, but the filters are very expensive. You are better off having a housekeeper stop by every week or two to do the dusting.

Need to find out where all the dust is coming from. That is your #1 problem. 9 times out of 10 its from your attic. Either recessed light cans or leaky ac duct work.

I use this filter by Honeywell. Makes a huge difference. You can see the huge amount of dust collected on the filter.
