I know it's not "legal" in the French Quarter right now, but this is NOLA. What is the workaround? Is there an honest and legal way to get my unit working for me again?

I got one in June, got the key and everything was fine. Forgot something in my car, walked downstairs, and when I got back there was an eviction notice on the door for the following Monday.
I was only staying the weekend so I said frick it.
Also, the guys name on AirBnB was Christopher, but when I called it was a Hispanic lady.

Open a licensed/legal Bed and breakfast, hotel, or apartment?

Actually short term rentals were banned years ago in the quarter by one of the either historical or housing organizations there. They continued, but it has been illegal for a while in the quarter.

Or maybe there’s a good reason to protect those people who operate as above board businesses, pay the business tax rate, and give back to the community, and also protect those in residential areas who didn’t sign up to live next door to a “hotel.”

To a lot of people "progress" means throwing up yet another rickety cookie cutter subdivision or in this case, renting out their duplex for the weekend to a bunch of drunks from Indiana.
