Would I have sex with him? No you idiot but is it fair that I don't do chest compressions because he has a disease? That is where the discrimination becomes problematic.

That's still a medical and health education issue, not a civil rights one.

civil rights issue does not necessarily mean its a race thing.

yes I understand that but when you plaster Dr king's face on it... theres usually a racial agenda behind it.

and if you read what the message is( from their website) it is about race and shouldn't be

this is one of those scenarios where "discrimination" has a negative connotation but it shouldn't

Well it's a pretty big issue if disrcimination leads to HIV going untreated. And it's a big issue in black communities when discrimination in the black community leads to gay black males being uneducated about HIV

Pretty sure they meant sickle cell. AIDs already has a cure. Don't bang anyone with aids. Boom. Won't get AIDs.

There are tons of free educational seminars on AIDS, free testing and countless other services that are offered. These services are usually held in the inner city. It's not discrimination if they choose not to go and take advantage of these services.

People with HIV/AIDS do not have to disclose that information to employers or housing agencies.

Still that makes it an educational issue

Do you have AIDS? Why should we take you at your word that there is no AIDS discrimination anymore?

Does the OT despise people with AIDS, as much as they despise fat people? They're both, for the most part, preventable.

I saw that sign on Airline in north BR.

It's another example of shifting blame to everyone else. "It's your fault I have aids. Now pay for it and apologize for letting me get it."

Im sorry they have a picture of Dr. King on a billboard equating AIDS to a racial issue. As if to say that white people are the reason why the AIDS rate is so high in the black community.

this is used to stir more hate

I agree. I almost started this thread last week when I saw it. I think associating MLK with the AIDS epidemic is misleading and I don't think it's unintentional.

You're looking at discrimination as racial discirmination, when there is probably a ton more dicrimination in the black community against gay black males. This campaign seems like an educational one that addresses some of those issues.

So you admit there is discrimination. So when someone is denied a job or housing based purely on the fact they have AIDS, you don't consider that a civil rights issue?

Yeah but the sign is super misleading considering the conspiracy theories that surround aids

No I'm not. I'm looking at is there are countless services offered, most of which are free of charge, that people of all races do not use.

Ever heard the saying, "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink?" The same applies here. These agencies announce when and where they will offer testing and information type classes, and guess what people rarely show up

Again

the issue I have with the billboard and campaign as a whole is they have made to be about race.

Right, but you don't see how discrimination leads to shame leads to people being uneducated about HIV, especially in poor black communities?

Has nothing to with discrimination, has everything to do with them refusing to utilize the services that are offered.
