I think phones, health insurance and property taxes are the biggest ones.
My brother had cancer growing up, long lasting hospital stays numerous surgeries and it cost our family about $1000. That would have been huge numbers with today’s insurance coverages.
Property taxes in most cities have increased significantly and are a big expense.
Buying a cell phone is now a lot of money and a necessity.

Good for you and me. A few years ago I looked at our family budget and looked at the food expenditures....Grocery and eating out. Blew my mind to see how much we were paying for things like....pizza....or don't feel like cooking and you want something quick....Burgers...or Taco Bell...maybe go run and get a po boy. It added up, and we were making regular grocery runs of 250+ a week. We were spending the grocery bill on eating out so our food costs were obnoxious. So the reality was we c were spending close to 450 a week between the grocery and restaurants.
I remember as a kid we might hit up the Burger King once every 2 weeks . Maybe once a month we would get PoBoys. But 90% of what I ate we made at home.

I would bet that the percentage of income spent on insurance and healthcare was much lower in the past. Between health insurance, copays and out of pocket, car insurance, home, etc.

For only two, it's almost the same, and you don't have to do dishes after. Basic burger ingredients from Walmart (assuming I already have mustard, mayo, ketchup, etc.) All Natural* 80% Lean/20% Fat Ground Beef Chuck, 1 lb Tray $6.93 Sunbeam Jumbo Seeded Hamburger Buns, 8 Count $4.12 Sargento® Sliced Smokehouse Cheddar™, 11 slices $2.97 Fresh Iceberg Lettuce, Each $1.88 Fresh Whole Red Onion, Each $1.15 Total $17.05 for two burgers Burgersmith USDA Organic Beef Burger $11x2 = $22 Five Guys Cheeseburger $9.89x2 = $19.78 Curbside Classic $8.49x2 = $16.98 MOOYAH Cheeseburger $6.79x2 = $13.58
Wait but you have enough groceries to make 4 burgers. Or at least 3. I couldn’t find a patty size for curbside or burgersmith but five guys is a quarter pound. And even if you want an 8oz patty, you can make 2 more burgers for $6.93 until you run out of buns. Or just make 6 grilled cheeses for free.
