Without attempting to sell me or leave information; went door to door. Guy said it was for advertising.

While he had a full uniform and drove an ADT vehicle, this just feels odd, as I always thought ADT fought signs without service.

Is this a scam/casing or legit?

Sounds like a scam. Someone who wants to break in might be making sure you have ADT.

I would call ADT. They might be doing it for research purposes - comparing break ins at actual ADT houses vs fake ADT houses vs houses with no signage.

I would guess that they are about to start a sales campaign in your neighborhood and are trying to get some exposure set up. If he puts a sign in your yard, others will think you purchased.

I would assume you will see some sales activity in your area shortly.

This clear something up for me. In neighborhoods around me there are a ton of houses with a sign of a local security service. And then it just stops and I thought either they got a really really good deal or they were just encourage to place signs on lawn Because no where did all those people decide to buy that one service at the same time

Why do you uou ask? Are you fricking stupid enough to let him?

Alarms are hilarious. Just set on to go off in your home. And the crook would never know it hadn't called thebpolice... and runs

Alarm companies and cops rely on false alarms and costing you at least $50 any time it happens and a dispatch is made

We are on the process of purchasing a new home and I'm considering just buying Adt signs and stickers off of EBay rather than having the security system activated.

That sign will protect you from clean cut white guys.

I’ve seen the commercials.

They have simple door alarms and very cheap things, all controlled thru wifi.

Put motion sensor lights around house and a sticker or 2 and you are good. NOTHING would come out of the cops being called

How do they determine a false alarm? If the perp is trying to kick the door and hears the alarm go off, he's going to run away and the cops won't see anyone. But it was still a legitimate alarm.

Heck, even the perps on the commercials can run away before the cops arrive.

Of course I didn't let him, just curious if anyone else had heard of this. Level of pistol readiness has already been increased, just in case

I don't understand this mentality. It's not incredibly expensive, it helps provide peace of mind and safety for your most important asset, whether you are home or not.

I just don't think it likely someone is going to attempt to burgalize a house they perceive to have a security system when so many homes do not. Plus the home is in a low crime area with no history of break ins.

Locks only keep out honest people. If you have something they want, the security cameras aren't going to stop them.
