ADP Research Results
Six of the top 10 cities are in the South.
The study took ADP payroll data of more than 409,000 people, ages 20 to 29, at more than 20,000 U.S. employers, from a period encompassing January 2025 through January 2026.
Using that information, the study ranked 53 U.S. metro areas with at least one million residents based on wages, hiring and cost of living.
Birmingham-Hoover climbed from a fifth place finish last year to first, with the study calling the area a “economic southern powerhouse.”

We did this in 1990s. Came with nice relocation package. That’s the only way could have worked for us.
Will never forget seeing gasoline prices there for 1st time. $1.37! Thinking, did I make a mistake (<$1 in gulf coast at the time).

Clay and Buck discussed this today on their radio show. Basically, so many people are leaving SF and NYC that rent prices are starting to fall.

Anyone can afford a place in NYC as long as you agree to it being not right in the center of "the action" like the cool parts of Manhattan or Brooklyn, but someplace that is a longer subway ride away, like Bensonhurts (Brooklyn) or the good parts of the Bronx (yes, there are there, you just have to know).

Or if willing, do a two bedroom with a good friend who will be your roomate. Then you only pay a bit more, like 2800 instead of 2000, but split among two that saves you 7200 a year in rent.

In NYC they can pay $650 rent and shop at the free grocery store! What could go wrong?
