AA defines an alcoholic as a person who finds success or failure if he works the program.
And this is where I will leave the debate because you apparently have NO IDEA what AA is or how it works. My goodness where do you get all the info you've been spewing, websites?
**AA is anonymous at the level of press, film, and media, all types. Good day sir.

Are you an addict/alcoholic? What do you believe as far as it being a hereditary gene or environmentally learned?

Cenikor is the one that finally worked for a family member of mine. I believe it's somewhere near Ninfas. Good luck to you!

You say 12 step programs are pointless yet agree with treatment centers.
i said that "the program" has some initial benefits in reinforcing the belief that a person wants to break their pattern of behaviors
it provides an early outlet for a new social group and can help with the person feeling like they're the only frickup with these problems
the actual TREATMENT i do disagree with. AA doesn't treat people who need treatment. AA just requires abstinence and belief in a mythology that has been proven to not have statistical significance, which also creates a self fulfilling prophecy that (in addition to the underlying psychological issues are not treated), can lead to disastrous effects.

Which treatment centers do you know of that don't apply any part of the 12 steps?
there are centers

they are the minority, mainly due to the very system that has led to the AA monopoly on treatment
a lot of this is domination is via government (forced AA treatment through government mandate)

Great program and its free. Very difficult for the younger generation to complete though.

Edgefield Recovery Center in Cheneyville, La. In between Bunkie and Alexandria. Beautiful place. Was there for a 45 day treatment from April-May of this year, and it literally changed my life.

why?
my dad is in "the program"
i had to go to those stupid children of alcoholics groups on occasion (and when i didn't go, i was blamed for almost relapses, lol)
hell i went to non-alcoholic getaways as a kid all the time. my dad's social group became his AA friends
my brother is also in "the program"

there is a reason for this and it's not government

there is no better option
i posted a study that stated that there is equal recovery rates amongst the programs tested. only 1 was AA
this "there is no option" stuff is mythology...a mythology that pushes the dominance of 12-step programs, killing competition to find a better way
Posted on 9/26/14 at 9:39 am to SlowFlowPro
so why do you go to AA meetings if you think it's a cult?

So someone out there has a better success rate for treating addiction?
non-treatment appears to be doing pretty well
go look at the stats on spontaneous recovery i posted earlier compared to AA success rates

Are you an addict/alcoholic?
i have what would be described as an addictive personality. this does involve things like alcohol. but when i have issues with that, i acknowledge them and scale back.
quote:
What do you believe as far as it being a hereditary gene or environmentally learned?
wouldn't shocked me due to personal/anecdotal experience, but i am completely biased on this front so my opinion is worthless
i think "addiction" is a combination of a bunch of things, and those things can be hereditary
