The video appears to show one of the crew members in the water using a thick binder as a flotation device...

Was the tug trying to go 40 yards?

There's no word if it was Joe Alleva's fault....

Includes a video of the boat sinking: all crew members rescued

There is obviously no length Joe Alleva will not go to, to embarrass the state of Louisiana.

Video shows the barge pushed up against an anchored ship. I would bet he lost power and then the current pushed him there. The strength of the current and the shape of the anchored ship's bow caused the overturning.

I couldn't help but notice that there were 2 other larger tugs that appeared briefly near the end of the video. Looks like they MIGHT have been trying to aid the troubled tug. I'm pretty sure I read "Marquette" on both of them.

They hit the actual vessel, didn't they? I would guess that they hit and got themselves caught between the bow and the chain and the current finished tipping them over. but those doors open would have just made a vacuum when the water started coming in, its a very good thing they bailed early

its the engine room, not the deck, there's only one or two guys down there, and he's supposed to keep the door shut while he's in there and close it after he leaves the room, specifically because of that possibility. if the boat starts going over and the engine room doors are shut it slows down the capsize and gives the rest of the crew more time to get into safety gear and off the boat.

They are still trying to locate the sunken tug boat, it is fricking terrifying just how big and deep the big muddy is at that point. Never ceases to amaze me quite honestly.

WTF? He just ran into the mooring for the carrier. Shouldn't matter but I wonder if the wind pushed him into it.

The river can bury that boat very quickly. Sometimes they don’t ev3n find th3m. The same owners had a tug sink last year around Donaldsonville.
