But I know thermite burns at a high enough temperature to easily melt steel. Kerosene, i.e., jet fuel, not so much.

Iron microspheres were found and the conspiracy industry jumped to the conclusion that those were evidence of thermite use, when they weren't. That whole theory has been thoroughly debunked.
