New Year’s Day used to be celebrated in Spring with Easter, so New Year’s Day was on a different day every year. It wasn’t until the 15th century that January 1st was decided upon as New Years, and many countries didn’t adopt til hundreds of years later.
Picardy & Toulouse are the only two regions in France that have less people living there now than they had in the Middle Ages
Middle Ages prostitutes could be identified by wearing stripes in some jurisdictions
The invention of the chimney in the 12th century had major social impacts through stratification. No longer did lords and servants crowd around large fires in the great halls. With chimneys, the nobility built exclusive fireplaces build elsewhere in their residences where they could be warm and not have to socialize with non nobles.
