Does it matter if it is on or off when using the heater in a vehicle?

Mine gets hot either way.

Yeah. It needs to be on.

If my AC button is on and heat is on, it will feel more hot when I turn the AC button off. (15 Silverado)

It matters. It was my science fair project in 5th grade.

Keeps the humidity out of the air, and exercises your compressor. Not using the ac for months leads to leaks.

This, definitely plays a dehumidifying role.

JC is right on this one. If both heat and AC are on, the cold air descends while the hot air rises. If you have the ducts on the floor position, you're fricked.

Keeps the windshield much more clear if A/C is on running the compressor.

The defroster uses the compressor, so it's automatically on if you're using heat + defrost.

Fill a sock with cat litter to stop windshield from fogging up

Yeah I’m not doing that

Absorbs moisture in air

Always seems like something my wife would like.
At home, she'll jack the heat up to 76, then get hot and then turn on the AC to cool it back down to 70. all over the course of a few hours.

When it's on the ac is is also on. If you turn the temp knob up it will still warm but the advantage is when it's humid and cold like now, the ac will help get the moisture out of the vehicle in general. In particular it will help clear the windshield when the defroster is turned on.

I was actually wondering about this today. This thread is on point.
