Brendan James, trust daddy when he says this was the same as Katrina it's just a media conspiracy!

Yes, that's a barge sitting in a neighborhood next to the slabs where there were once houses. Denham and BR are absolutely going through a lot right now, but to suggest it's even remotely comparable other than the presence of flooded homes is laughable.

I don't really understand the desire for news coverage on this right now. If it was on the news 24/7, you'd have people say the media sensationalizing a disaster.

Fortunately, I don't live in flood area, but even if I did, I'm not sure what good media coverage would do, or thatd I'd really give a damn about it.

National press leads to more donations to help and political pressure as well to assist those affected.

No press = less money.

Katrina killed far more and wiped out a wider area. For all the New Orleans coverage, it was coastal Mississippi that was completely leveled.

A better comparison would be Sandy. Much less of an event than the '16 Flood but it impacted near New York so it got big media coverage. Hurricanes are also good TV so there's that factor as well for drama.

You guys have lost your mind if you think the '16 flood is comparable to Katrina or Sandy in terms of people effected

I will take a wild guess and say there were many more drowning victims in the 9th Ward than there were in Denham Springs.

I'll get slammed for this comment, but I thing the LP flood will effect br more than the lower 9th flood effected New Orleans from a pure business standpoint. Think about how many people commute from LP to Br for work, shopping, owning businesses, recreational activities. This will effect businesses in BR for many many years.

Hey guys. I got a great idea. Let's turn this flood and Katrina into a dick measuring contest. For good measure, let's throw sandy into it.

You guys are dumbasses.

Yea, reading this thread is a bit strange. BSL/Waveland all the way to Gulfpoet still haven't replaced but probably 15% of the homes that were leveled...want some property? I was lucky to get back in my house a year later, after much time in a FEMA camper, but the whole towns water and sewer system had to be replaced since the wave action destroyed all of the headers that ran under Beach Blvd (which was gone).

I don't even want to pull up pictures, but sufficed to say if that force hit Denham Springs no one would ever live there again.

I don't think the US military could do that much damage to an area in the same given time.

People here were making fun of Sandy, and now people here get a Sandy-like storm and lo and behold there's flooding issues.

Natural disasters are not something to be proud of and compare to others.

Because everyone dogged bush for flying over the devastation and not coming to see it first hand.

Because Obama hasn't said or done shite for DS. People have been helping people because they are not scared of getting shot, knifed, robbed, killed, or raped.

I'm well aware. My parents were right in the heart of Sandy and I vividly remember a thread that said "let's make fun of these stupid Yankees" in how they prepare for a hurricane and how NY "deserved" it. Thankfully my family was fine and only had some roof damage and lost 1 car. But some of my high school friends lost everything and yet this board was laughing at it. This time my college friends and former coworkers in Baton Rouge are losing everything and these morons can't get over the dick measuring contest. One thing about the OT is that the people on here are very quick to play the victim and then dismiss others when those others are the victim.

I'm getting tired of the whole "what about our coverage" about this whole flood.

The response and recovery of this whole disaster has been top notch, but people still seem to be butthurt that Hollywood hasn't greenlit the Livingston Parish flood disaster film yet.

Yes you are. That is 100% of what your post is. The difference is a population of WORKING people that are WORKING to fix the mess themselves, versus a population of government dependent people that took to the liberal media whining about why the government wasn't there taking care of them.

And since you obviously haven't been on the ground here and therefore are talking out of your arse, why don't you STFU.

N.O. had so much attention it was the worst natural disaster in US history

The damage to NO from Katrina is in no way the worst natural disaster in US history. In fact it fails to make most top ten list. This event in Baton rouge is but a blip on the radar unless you personally are affected.

But yes, the fact the victims are white and choosing to help themselves rather than act like poorly raised infants makes the coverage less entertaining, and thus less newsworthy. If you want coverage see if lootie has a cracker cousin that is available.
