September 2, 1945.
With those final lines, General Douglas MacArthur - Supreme Allied Commander of Pacific Forces - brought the Second World War to a close. The bloodiest and most destructive conflict in human history, it began six years earlier when Nazi Germany invaded Poland. Over the course of the intervening period, between 60-80 million people are estimated to have been killed by its destruction.
And it all came to a close in Tokyo Bay aboard the USS Missouri. The representatives of Imperial Japan signed the instrument of surrender at 9:25 AM bringing the last major war in world history to date to a ceremonial end.

It really gets to you when you visit the Mighty Mo now. Standing on the surrender deck you can see the Arizona Memorial

Its incredible....I visited and stood on the very spot where the Japs surrendered

In hindsight, this was probably the case. At the time it ensured Japan wouldn't become communist.
But today, I'll celebrate and give thanks to God above and for the many Americans who died in that horrible conflict.
