People do that, but I don't like it. An emergency fund is supposed to be a place you can get money when something unexpected happens. Being forced to liquidate stocks during that time could be a problem depending on the market.
I'd prefer the money in cash or cash equivalents and start investing everything once that's filled, but to each their own.
I think bills bare min $4,500 so going to build $15k cash then go to investing again.

That 401k loan can happen quickly
I don't hate them. I know it is a no no but pay myself I like it.

I max out my 401k (and I’m over 50, so that’s $1,025 twice a month). After that plus insurance, taxes, etc. are taken out, I have an alimony payment that’s more than half of what’s left. Thankfully that ends in 8 months.
So yeah, I’m paycheck to paycheck for now.

Yeah, I mean, if you're counting on 7% returns from your emergency fund to help your retirement, you're doing it wrong.

An emergency fund is a financial staple and an emotional/mental one. The peace of mind a mediocre money market account with 6-months of your expenses in it brings can't really be quantified.

No.
My ex-wife is just a decent person. We agreed to a flat dollar amount for a fixed period.

Didn't dispute. No surprise there. You're getting closer to admitting you may be a little different than everyone else. I'm so proud of you Junior, this is your second biggest day, behind learning to tie your shoes at 14.

Do as you see fit, but you're doing it backwards as far as generic financial advice is concerned. Cut the 401k to the company match, build your emergency fund, then go back to the $18.5k.
Your retirement won't be made or broken over something like that.

Agreed we have $50k in individual account in JP Morgan stock. We have used that as emergency, but prefer we get cash and start building that up. I need to likely diversify it but it has done well. Wife has had it forever so figure whatever.
