Drinking water out of a garden hose in the Summer when you were hot and thirsty from playing outside. And it didn't have to be your hose - any spigot in the neighborhood was fair game and community property.

Riding your bike all over town and you didn't have to be home until the street lights came home.

Building a fort in the woods from rotting lumber and discarded construction materials and telling the neighborhood girls and weirdo boys they weren't allowed.

Stomping around in a creek in old tennis shoes and lifting rocks to hunt crawdads.

Getting up to change the channel on the TV or putting tinfoil on the rabbit ears to get better reception

Mom dropping you and a buddy off at the arcade with a $10 roll of quarters and telling you she will be back to pick you up in four hours.

Getting up early on a Saturday morning to devour two bowls of sugary cereal and watch 3 hours of cartoons while Mom and Dad slept in.

Racing home from Sunday School to watch Madden and Summerall call the NFC game of the week.

Catching fireflys in a jar with holes poked in the lid.

Playing tackle football in the mud without pads after a heavy rain.

Licking the spoon when Mom made homemade brownies.

Feeling cool when you switch from tighty whities to boxers and start using speed stick deodorant.

Going to sleep away camp and getting excited at mail call when you get a letter or care package from home.

Having a stash of nudie magazines hidden somewhere in the neighborhood - bush was king!

A vacation meant packing up five suitcases for 3 nights in Florida and everyone screamed and fought the whole way down.

Having an RC Cola and a Moon Pie with Grandpa after he teaches you how to shoot a gun but makes you promise not to tell Mom and Grandma about it.

Playing Nintendo until you got arthritis in the knuckle of your thumb.

Shooting fireworks at each other on the 4th of July.

Birthday parties at the roller skating rink where one kid always broke an arm.

Getting sick off carnie food and rickety rides at the County Fair.

Putting your baseball glove under the mattress to help break it in.

Trying to convince your parents that you are craving some Burger King when secretly all you wanted was the commemorative Stars Wars drinking glass picturing Jabba the Hut in lead paint.

Reading Mad Magazine at the drug store while your Mom waited 30 minutes in the pharmacy line to fill a prescription.

Only going to a sit down restaurant a few times a year for special occaisions like a birthday or graduation. Everything else was meatloaf night, spaghetti night, etc...

Being nervous that your car will "make weight" at the Pinewood Derby.

Covering your bedroom wall with posters of exoctic cars you will never afford and women who would never give you the time of day.

Feeling like Gordon Gekko when you swindled someone in baseball card trade.

Discovering MTV and thinking "holy sh*t, I'm watching music!

Ash trays in the aisles of stores like Woolco, KMart, grocery stores, etc. Always mounted to the support poles and it was the ones that you hit the button on top and the bottom would open to clean it.

Born in the mid-70s and I’m not sure anything about when I grew up is recognizable today. Some for the better and a lot for the worse.

You used to see droves of kids riding bikes around and you barely ever see kids in our neighborhood on a bike. Moms are so freaked out over safety that the kids just don’t bother to ride anymore.
