Wondering how much more severe the consequences are ona second offense?
I'm telling you how bad they're going to be for the 2nd offense. It's just more of what she got the first time. Heavier fine, longer probation and supervised this time, a hell of a lot more community service and her license will be suspended longer. If she has to go to jail, it'll be for a weekend or something similar.
Trust me, I fricking know.

Didn't care until you asked. My mistake.

refused the breathalyzer test and was charged with 2nd offense DWI
With that said, DWI/DUI consequences should be far greater.

I have heard some defense lawyers recommend not to submit to the breathalyzer.

Of course, if you have been drinking it's doing nothing but building a case against yourself. If you get pulled over and know you are over the limit, the best thing you can do is stick your hands out and say take me to jail.
I don't condone drinking and driving FYI

For the most part, the advantage of not blowing has been legislated away. The laws now make it to where you are pretty much admitting guilt from the outset when you don't blow. You are going to be charged, booked in jail, your license suspended for even longer, and when you get to court your arresting officer will exaggerate the hell out of the whole encounter so you'll be portrayed as guilty as sin for not blowing. 9 out of 10 times, you'll still get the DWI. Now, you'll probably get the DWI 10 out of 10 if you blow over the limit so I guess that there is possibly some advantage to not blowing, but its minuscule at best.

Refusal gets you a 12 month suspended license. You can get a hardship license and a interlock device then be driving legally within a week

Someone I know just got his 4th over the weekend. He's a piece of shite. I hope he does at least 5 years.

They'll suspend if for 2 years if you have an especially high BAC. I believe anything over .02 gets you another year suspension. But yes, with the breathylyzer and SR-22 insurance you can be driving again almost immediately. But that in and of itself is a arse load of money. DWI's are expensive, that's for damn sure.

She said the first DWI resulted in $100 / month breathalyzer fee, $1000 for SR 22 and $1,000 for probation officer along with increased insurance premiums. This one may prove too costly for her o continue driving.

Plus tack on a lawyer if she plans on getting one. If she didn't blow, then I assume that she wants to fight it so she'll want a lawyer. That's going to cost $1k-$5k there too. That's all before she's actually convicted and sentenced. Again, DWI's are very expensive.

No jail time. The judicial system really doesn't care about people who put the lives of others in danger by drinking and driving

What can she expect from the court in St. Martin Parish?
Hopefully euthanasia. That's the only thing drunk drivers should expect.

Hopefully she can expect a decent prison sentence and permanent loss of license
