So leaving it in the garage running in the garage with the door open is still a problem?
Yes, it dramatically increases the chances of carbon monoxide poisoning to have a generator in an attached enclosed structure. Even with the garage door open, if the wind blows the right way it can force the CO in.

Yes it is stupid to do so. Have a friend who is the definition of a baw and his CO detectors went off the other night, had it outside but was too close to the soffit and it came in.
Put it 20 feet away from the garage, and chain it to something. Even having it in the garage with the door open is a huge risk.

That's horrible. I bought a couple of generators this go round and both have CO2 shut downs installed. I guess it should be mandatory.

Not doubting the story but am curious as to how it entered into the home?
Roof vents or whirlybirds should be moving air out, ac system is closed to the attic. Did it enter through bathroom vent fans?
Not sure how else it can come in from the attic.

Im not sure, said his CO monitors started going off.
If you have spray foam and it is under a bathroom vent it could come in. If regular insulation and attic is not sealed well, could come in the a way I guess.

He probably lost his whirlybirds and had the holes covered like most people. My buddy had his in the threshold of his garage with the exhaust facing out and his co alarms went off. Don’t chance this stuff, this kills multiple people every year. If your worried about rain, find a piece of OSB that got ripped off someone’s roof and put it on top of the generator with something heavy on top to weigh it down.
