To get from 36 to 18, you divide by 2
To get from 36 to 9, you divide by 4
To get from 36 to 6, you divide by 6
Not sure if that is the pattern but 6 would be my guess for the first digit Seems far-fetched for 4th grader to figure out, regardless.

Oh lol I answered right after you
For the 3, I'm assuming the pattern is division by the smallest factor greater than 1

Last number is 2. Prime number has to be greater than 1 by definition.

That's actually a good thought to tie in the theme of learning factors.

Ok everyone...dont kill the messenger or the Teacher but this is the response cut and pasted from email a few minutes ago.
"Whoever made this last year, should have made a pattern that is divided by 2. We should have double checked it too. So Sorry!"
I am a five digit number
The digit in the ten thousands place is the next number in the pattern: 56, 28, 14 , _____. The digit in the thousands place is 2 less than the greatest factor of 8.
Seven times the digit in the hundreds place is 49. The digit in the tens place is the fourth multiple of 2. The digit in the ones place is a prime number less than 3.
What number am I?
The answer would be 76, 782
This I know is very anti climatic but has also been very educational... I feel a little better about my ability to sequence numbers... just a little! I will put more later if I get additional info from the teacher. Thanks everybody and have a great weekend!

My Friday is ruined.
I had dreams of all the other prime numbers kicking 1 out of the group and beating him up. Poor, lonely, 1.

I was going by the OP first post. Divide 36 by 2, then 4, then 6.
Posted on 9/26/14 at 9:28 am to Bloodworth
