$46M Louisiana Medicaid Contract Extension Given to Company to Process Bills

LINK

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Lawmakers gave another $46 million contract extension to the company that processes bills for Louisiana's Medicaid program, with promises from the health department that it will seek more competitive deals for the work in the future.

House and Senate health committee members approved the one-year extension for Molina Medicaid Solutions without objection Wednesday. The company will be paid largely the same amount for the work next year that it received this year.

Lawmakers have extended the contract four times, often grudgingly, saying they aren't sure they've got the best arrangement, but feel stuck while they wait for the health department to search for new contractors.

That $100 million surplus is fading fast.

It would be nice if the legislature would standardize billing across all of the "Healthy Louisiana" plans.

What a frigging joke. Typical Louisiana.

The day to day incompetence of our local governments may be maddening but then you realize it is small potatoes compared to this bullshite. Then compare this to some of the billion dollar boondoggles at the federal level and you realize why we have a giant deficit. Politicians lining each other's pockets with our money.

I think I'm going to open up a new business, anyone want to be a business partner? I'm looking at a bid I put together for it and I think we can get it done for the low low price of only $43 million.

Also, it's amazing how we can find $46 million to pay a high cost for a service like this, but we can't find money to build things like better schools or roads, among other things.

It's absolutely fricking ridiculous how much this has inflated the cost of utilization review for hospitals.

Supposedly this is going to be a priority for the governor and LDH. I won't hold my breath.
