This guy makes simulations of different flights. Here is the one for UAL 232.

Simulation of the flight.

It's been a long time ago but I could've sworn GE was under investigation for that top engine containment failure. I seem to remember something about scrap metal being used.

I've found nothing in Google and Bing searches. Maybe it was silenced.

if you're referring to AA191, the head of maintenance at AA ORD was found to be the culprit for using the wrong bolts to re-attach the engine to the wing after an engine change, the investigation writeup makes it sound like he couldn't find the right bolts and just went down to HD and picked out some he thought would work, wasn't quite that simple, those bolts are made to shear off anyway in the event of severe engine vibration, his name was Charlie, iirc, he was called deadbolt Charlie or something like that from that time on

ETA: he was called "forklift Charlie" because the forklift raising the engine up to the pylon hit it and caused some fatigue cracks, iirc

Dude internet over there is garbage. Streaming is basically non existent. I’m living out on the economy so I don’t have access to the base internet. I’ll be back for Nov-Dec though.

We’ll see how it goes. Sometimes if I can get everyone to shutoff their porn and get off their cell phones at the same time I can stream stuff. So if it’s a big game i may have a shot.

So what happens to mechanics that screw up something they're working on and ppl are killed.

BREAKUP over Texas is an example.

AA191 crash at O'Hare in 1979.

Wasn't the cause determined to be improper maintenance of an engine? I vaguely recall they rested the engine in a forklift to perform maintenance. This was not the protocol.

My first ever flight was a DC 10 from Houston to Denver in early June. Halfway there an enormous black cloud tapered down underneath the plane at a lower altitude and climbed above us in the distance. This was a forward edge of a thunderstorm complex. For the next 45 minutes the plane's wings seemed to flap as we buckled against the turbulence. Worst flight I ever had!

Can’t see the link but it’s not always as simple as a mechanic screwing up. In the past it’s often the case of an an airline outsourcing maintenance to save a few bucks and or pencil whipping maintenance logs that’s behind it that results in massive loss of life.

Nah, it was titanium.

There was an imperfection in it and seventeen years of use caused the defect, along with the fact that it was in a difficult spot for regular maintenance.

Doesn't Fedex fly DC 10s? Or do they fly MD 11s and is that a better version than the DC10 POS?
