For fricks sake, you can see the plaster dust on the black table in foreground.
It's not plaster, it's diatomaceous earth (crushed up seashells basically). That and the dry climate in Nazca helped preserve them. I've also seen the Russian researchers that have looked at this say calcium chloride is in the mix which would help preserve the bodies and also be white.
What these are? Nobody knows yet, but the xrays and 3D tomographies are impressive and pretty much every scientist that has taken the time to study the actual bodies, at least for the bigger, human sized ones, does not conclude they are a hoax.
This has way more legs and has passed much more scrutiny than a modern hoax would, which are typically short term churn and burn schemes because they can't hold up to serious scrutiny. This discovery happened in 2017 and the number of scientists involved and the amount of scientific research into these specimens is increasing, not decreasing. That should tell you something.
Nobody has disputed the carbon dating putting most of the specimens at 1000-2000 years old. At the very least it's one of the more interesting archaeological finds ever. If they aren't real, why did the ancient people of Nazca make tridactyl mummies?
Whether it's just cool archaeology or aliens (or something weirder), it should be an interesting story.
