There are a large subset of drivers who get a thrill out of being one small mistake away from death. I certainly was one. I think it’s why the 911 is so in demand.
I’m back to the little 180hp i6 and old 5 speed. Rather give the car all it can handle instead of having the car give me all I can handle.

That shite right there is about right. No matter how much they try and pussy wagon a Corvette. Those are the frickers you see driving them.

I love my 911, and it's very forgiving.

The F-Type R was constantly trying to put me in the hospital, though.

You really only unwind that car in a track setting.

Question to the OT: how much HP is too much?

Honest answer is there’s never enough until you frick up. It comes down to more about the driver. Someone that’s been in high hp cars gets bored quick, and wants more. Same drivers are used to things getting sketchy, and are able to reign things in although look out of control.

Problem honestly is all the nanny controls, and people that have more money than ability to handle these cars.

For example: A 1988 mustang 5.0l, 5speed with a grabby clutch, 3.73 gears, and decent tires would scare the shite out of someone that’s only used to a modern nanny controlled car with 3-4x the hp.

Especially if you catch some unexpected rain when you have drag radials on.

They are. Don’t get me wrong I love abs, and traction control in normal driving on wet roads. The ebmc on my C5 has been out since I got it. No traction control, or abs. Feels like an ole skool car with the t56.

The right tires can make all the difference in the world. I’ve ran nitto, and MT drag radials on my car. Not bad if you know how to drive the car even on wet roads. Just a very fine line of forgiveness before you are facing oncoming traffic bc you let the happy pedal get too deep. Switched over to 200 tread rated autocross tires, and made all the diff in the world. 305/35r18.

Car was night and day diff on wet roads.

Who in a metro area would want a corvette with all that power. Except for the fact that you HAVE a vette, it’s not like you can use it like it’s meant to be used.

I have swapped keys with a few owners of later models and they say the same thing afterwards, wow you really have to pay attention with these old ones. Yep, you are the "computer" between the brakes, clutch, shift lever, steering and accelerator. They can be very unforgiving if you get yourself in a bad situation.

You misspelled "worn-out rears"...

The old posi traction standard cars are very unforgiving. Even at low hp.

I’ve been caught more than once back in the old ET Street days (before the new radials ones). Bad combo with a spool.

I would!!! The newer direct injected cars will drive like a Honda accord until you don’t want them too. Everything about that car is computer controlled and is set up for you not to be able to get too far out of control.

Plus they still get ok mpg

It would take me about two weeks before I’d be ready for more power and researching how to crank up the boost or put on bigger turbos. The only reason I haven’t gone crazier with my car is I like the balance of being able to street drive it, do a little drag racing and also hit a track day at COTA from time to time. Keeping that balance limits how hard I can go.

This right here!!! Once you get used to it, you’re ready for more. It’s an addiction the likes of a drug habit. It’ll always take more and more to get the same feeling you got that one time.
