I’ve wanted a Tacoma for several years, been to more than a few Toyota dealerships and will say they are all notoriously hard arse when it comes to moving off their price. Plus, the V6 models are surely holding value more than anything 2024 and later since they went to 4 cyl turbo….

My brother did the same thing. The Nissan is a very nice truck. He hasn’t had any issues with it and it has very impressive capability and tech. Better than the Tacoma.

Was very shocked with the features in the Nissan. Yes way more than the Tacoma. We’ll see how this truck holds up compared to the Tacoma.

Only complaint is it sits WAY low to the ground compared to tacomas even with the small lift the dealer put on.

Before buying that Tacoma, I suggest to go look at and test drive new Nissan Frontier. You probably can get a new Frontier for not much more than $36k.

People shite on Nissan all the time, but I have a 22 pathfinder that I've been very happy with for the most part.

With the new refinement the new frontier likely cannot be as reliable as the previous generation. However it is as reliable as almost anything ever produced. I personally cannot stand the Tacoma with the Camry engine as it feels anemic at the RPMs where you would most use a truck.

The 4.0 Tacoma is the superior engine compared to the later designs. The 3.4l Tacoma is in contention for most reliable vehicle of all time.

Of the few 3.4s I have owned, the Nissan platform with the 4.0l motor was more reliable.

For sheer reliability it goes:

Tier 1: toyota 3.4 and frontier 4.0
Tier 2: Toyota 4.0 and frontier 3.7
Tier 3: Toyota 2.5, camry, frontier 3.3

The first two will give a half million miles. Tier two 4.0 yota motor consukes oil. Frontier 3.7 is still relatively untested past 200k

Must be why Frontiers sell so much better than Tacomas. Right?

Maybe it was the seating position but I'm right at 6 feet and I had two tacomas and I found them to be uncomfortable after 30 minutes.

For a vehicle that sold two to one... You sure see a whole lot more square body frontiers still on the road compared to every 4.0l or newer tacoma.

You do the math as to why

[quote]It's amazing what they charge new. The resale price isn't a "win", it's because they're so overpriced to start with.

I say that as a former TRD Tacoma owner. ]High in, high out

That's better than High in, Low Out.

I'll take paying upfront for superior reliability/quality with the peace of mind that comes in knowing it will be in high demand and retain its value when the time comes to get another one.

How can I expect them to move on this price?

I have found over the years that used cars do not have the bargain room that new cars do. You get a couple thousand you are doing good

The new tacos are not the same animal as the old. They were lightweight, simple, and reliable. Now they are plastic, and come with 2 power train options i want nothing to do with.

They don't "retain their value". All vehicles depreciate, and while the end result may be that a used Tacoma isn't cheap, you pay for it upfront. There is no free lunch, and Toyota makes bank off of people depreciating tens of thousands of dollars all because they're worth a few thousand more on the back end.

I wish they would bring that $10k truck to the US.

I love my ‘22 Frontier. More affordable than the Tacoma, but comes with a lot more options.

Congrats on looking at a newer truck. That’s obviously what you wanted to tell everyone here

How much can you afford per month, that's the real question here.

No, it's not.

Are you a car dealer? They can make any vehicle fit a monthly budget, that's the whole scam
