GT2 RS is unfair. You shouldn't compare cars to that alien aircraft.
Agreed, but it fits my argument. It clearly appears the C8 is going to be poor mans exotic, but not tangling with the lap times of the real exotics.
Nothing wrong with that if the price is right they will still be a bang for the buck winner. Lutz said he thought it would be about 5k more than the C7, I find it hard to believe but we shall see. I have always wanted GM to leave the Vette alone and build a production MR halo.

Hopefully it looks way better than the several leaked pictures because so far those have disappointing and ugly.
Kind of like they used 1 designer for the front end, another for the middle and some guy off the street for the back and none of them talked to each other while they were working.

Well, for the Corvette to survive it has to sell a certain volume.
Obviously a base C8 is probably not going to be quicker than a car that costs twice as much that also doesn't have to sell in the same volume as the Corvette.
So in a sense, you are correct re: a poor man's exotic.
It will be interesting to see how the higher hp versions fare at the 'ring.
Of course, the new 911 will have new versions to test as well.
It is a great time to be a car guy.

Ugh. I haven't seen that interior until now and absolutely hate it. Man, that is really disappointing. I have always had a thing for a Vette.

If you are waiting around for a nice Vette interior you may be sitting for a while. All production cars are a compromise and Vette owners have spoken with their wallets time and time again saying the interior is where they are most comfortable compromising.

Yeah I understand that most all the vette interiors have been shite. That one is just weird with the divider and the buttons that were pointed out.
I had an old 92 LT1 I bought from my uncle when I turned 18 and that was the most uncomfortable automobile I've ever driven.

If you ever get the chance, the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green is great. They did a good job, IMO.

My first Vette was a new black on black 1996 C4.
I drove it to Pensacola from NOLA and I thought my back was broke.
Then, after taking the targa roof off, I learned all about cowl shake. (I shoulda known when it took 4 Torx bolts to get the top off)
The C5 was a huge step up in NVH due to hydroformed frame rails (also mag ride, which everybody uses now) and the C7 has some pretty excellent sets and interior appointments.
I would like for the C8 to have some pretty high-end options in the interior.

If that interior pic is what is offered, then they deserve all the negative feedback handed to them.
But, lest we forget...then again, maybe we should.

I agree, I don't like what I see so far.
That pic was cool back in the day though.

Love the exterior, do not care for the interior. Especially the SQUARE steering wheel. What the hell is wrong with a round steering wheel. I can see the bottom being squared off but not a complete square...

Passenger side made for midgets.

It is an ape of the La Ferrari's steering wheel which is an ape of an F1 wheel BUT the design has a very important function, in the Ferrari, it prevents the top of a rounded wheel from obscuring the sightline over the hood. The bottom is flat like so many super and hypercars to allow the legs to fit in a low slung interior.
If the Vette needs the flat top then form follows function, if not then it is just a design ripoff for no useful function. I trust it is the former.
ETA we will know what the exterior actually looks like in 2hrs and 38 mins or so.

Damn, I bet. I drove mine from Bham to ATL about 2 weeks after I bought it and knew then that I wasn't going to keep that car very long. I was crushed man. I had wanted a vette since I was about 6 years old and was super disappointed with that car.

You’d have to spend a few thousand bucks to mod a Challenger that’s able to run with a stock Corvette.

This is the issue with designing a relatively aero efficient MR chassis car. They all will have the cribbed off the same easel feel at least in the generic sense. Plus that is a rendering which almost always lean toward historical cues.

Get back to me when you can pick up that Porsche for under 250k new off the showroom floor. and remember, this is the base model corvette. The base 911 Carrera only does the ring in 7:25.
