I was just parked (not in park, just foot on the brake) in a parking lot and my dash alert beeped about 3 times and the battery logo flashed on and off.

I pulled out of the parking lot and headed home and the battery logo went away about a minute or so after beginning to drive and never came back for the 5-10 min drive home.

Any idea why this happened? Could it just be a dying battery or something more serious?

Did a little research and I read that hot temperatures can cause this? Any truth to this?

The battery idiot light indicates low operating voltage; it could be a bad connection, alternator, battery etc. I have had phantom battery lights in the past that would come on then go off, and I had no issues from it.

Check the date on the battery. Five years is about max life.

If cables arent corroded, its probably the alternator. Most parts places will check it for you. If its the alternator you need to replace it asap, before it kills your battery and you have to buy both.

Not sure where the alternator is on that truck but in my GMC it was really easy. Like about 10 minutes to change.

I would replace the serpentine belt too if you have never replaced it.

Yes, but if the battery is 5 years old, that's a good place to start troubleshooting.

How much am I looking at to have them both changed if I take it to a shop?

Best place to consult is F150Forum.com. Every problem ever had in a F150 is on there and is run by mechanics

Dude don't take your truck to a shop to have battery and/or alternator replaced. If you now nothing just google how to replace.... on a 2010 F150 and watch a couple of videos. It's easy
