CNN Article + Video

quote:

Parker County Sheriff's Capt. Mark Arnett told CNN that according to the mother, the children were playing in a back room of their home when they disappeared. After searching the home, the mother began looking outside, where she eventually found them locked inside the car. She told investigators that when she found them, one of the children had her cellphone and car keys, Arnett said. She reportedly broke a window to reach the children, but both were unresponsive, according to the news release. She added that the children had gotten into the car and locked themselves inside."The question is, can a 2-year-old open a car door and a 2-year-old and a 1-year-old climb inside and lock it," Arnett said. "In the course of the investigation, if charges are warranted, I'm sure the district attorney's office will bring them."

That is certainly the question. WTF?

Her story is bullshite. She left her kids in the car. It's probably innocent and she forgot them, but that's a fatal mistake, and she's going to have to live with that

It isn't easy for my 5 year old to get into my wife's car, so that's definitely bullshite. I hate hearing about this kind of shite.

My 2 year old can crack the car door open from the inside but that's it. I can't imagine a 2 year old with the strength to actually open the door.

There is nothing innocent about forgetting small children. I am a father of 3 and I promise that at no time has my wife or I forgot that our kids were in the car. I don't really understand how that happens. I am far from a perfect parent but this is a mistake that just shouldn't happen.

I have a 3 year old and he can't open the door to my car or my wife's car from the outside. There's no way a 2 year old can open a car door from the outside.

Actually, I had locked myself in my mom's car when I was 3. So it's possible but I'm def not believing her story.

No way kids can open a car door? My niece just turned three and can open the door of her mom's suburban. Easily. Y'all are clueless if you think a kid can't get into a car if they wanted to.

Did you open and close the door yourself?

I've known a couple of precocious kids age 2-3 who maybe could have done it (one certainly figured out how to turn over the trashcan, climb onto it from a chair, and open the freezer for ice cream), but it would depend on the car model, the kid, and the weight of the door. So it's a longshot.

I don't believe her for a minute, at least not yet. How long did she let them "play in a back room" before she checked on them? How long were they in the car? Car model? Kid? Weight of door? Could the 2 yo even reach the handle?

Too many questions here.

My daughter will be 4 in 2 weeks and she can get herself into her moms Acadia, but can't close the door, only open it. My other daughter turned 1 year old this past week, and no way in hell she could climb into a vehicle.

Should have just asked for a lawyer and let the lawyer handle all that.

She took a huge risk giving statements.

Her story stinks of bullshite. A 2 year old and 1 year old are not going to be able to do all that on their own. She killed those babies. The only question at this point is was it accidental or not.

My amateur detective skills lead me to believe she's FOS. Going further, the bit about the kids having the phone doesn't sit well with me. Simply a very very out of place detail. With regard to the phone, something tells me she wasn't looking for the kids at all, but the phone. Last place she checks is the car and there they are...

She's full of shite and covering her arse....but if this was me there would be no arse to cover. I'd be so sick to my stomach that I did that that I wouldn't try to to protect myself that's for sure.
