Grand Isle rip currents have always been a SOB. I don’t even like my kids surf fishing in that water even in light chop.

The Houma man who selflessly waded into a riptide off a Grand Isle Beach to try and save the lives of his fiancée’s young children has also died, according to authorities.
That’s brutal.

That man went out sacrificing everything to try to save some kids.
Nothing but respect for him.

Was at the beach tuesday thru Thursday.
Had some waves and my kids wanted to wade out farther than I was comfortable so I only let them go knees to mid thigh deep. They didn’t understand especially when other people were out a lot deeper but I understand riptides and how dangerous they can be. Silent killer of the beach if your not careful and weary of the weather.

This is awful. Living in an ocean beach town with many beaches and islands. I see tourists all the time that are ignorant to rip tides. They never pay attention to the flags and they have no idea, they are full of joy of being at the ocean.
I can see the same for Grand Isle. Imagine how the parents feel, it is terrible.
