That looks like an owner operator rig - not your typical company just out of driving school setup. Prayers to family.

Why is there such an increase in 18 wheeler crashes? Texting? Do those dumbasses need more training and restrictions?? frick... seems like every other day these clowns shut down I-10.

the truckers on this board will blame the car drivers. I travel the basin bridge daily. Its both that are at fault. The trucks go too fast on the basin bridge and many ignore the lane restrictions. The cars are speeding, texting, and cutting in front of the trucks and tailgating.

Its a one vehicle accident. Appears the truck drifted right into the crash attenuator. There are tire marks for about 15ft before POI but don't know if it is from braking or occurred during impact.

Inexperience. There is a huge shortage of drivers and a growing inventory of long haul loads. Companies like Swift, JB Hunt, Werner, TMC, and Trans Am throw these guys out there to the wolves with sometimes as little as 2 weeks training.

Go into a Pilot, Loves, or Flying J and see for yourself. Watch these guys try to back into a parking spot. If I see one of these company trucks, I stay far far away.

Inexperience

This and the increase of impatience of 4 wheel drivers. This wreck today may not have involved a 4 wheeler, but the increase of road rage incidents is a factor.

The wreck today could have been caused by a steering tire blowout.

No they don't need more restrictions. That's partially what's causing this. I'd be willing to put $100 bill on it that this truck was running electronic logs.

understood. I was speaking in general terms. the wreck that killed the 5yo kid last week in WBR was caused by a trucker who couldn't stop when he encountered the congestion.

my point about cars and trucks on the BB is still valid though. I see it every morning and afternoon.

Drivers are limited in the hours they can operate

No more than 8 consecutive hrs w/o taking a min. 30 minute break

Cannot operate more than 11 hrs w/o a 10 hr rest break

Once the day starts, operator not allowed to drive after 14 hrs unless he completes a 10 hr rest break

Driver not allowed to operate more than 70 hrs in any 8 day period.

There are minor exceptions to these general guidelines (split logs) but for this discussion that’s basically it

Electronic logs monitor tractor movements and compliance. E-Logs become mandatory for all operators December 2017

But how would that cause the accident? I obviously have no clue about trucking.

No idea. From the looks of what’s left of the trailer, this looks to be an ‘owner operator’ or contractor that was hauling for a farm or broker. Those guys are usually more experienced and know what they are doing.

Someone mentioned he fell asleep at the wheel - sleep apnea is a huge issue w/ overweight drivers, so much so DOT monitors those diagnosed. Driver could’ve also had a medical incident (stroke, heart attack, seizure).

Who knows.
