65 French Foreign Legionairres fought to the last man against 2000 Mexicans during France's abortive attempt to make Mexico a French Colony. The Legion commemorates the battle with an annual parade. The senior Legionairre present carries the Legion's most sacred relic, the wooden hand of the expedition's commanding officer, at the head of the procession.

Just imagine the fricked up language if the French would have won...a mix of Spanish and French. Probably would sound something like what you hear in Donalsonville.
