Unique is not the word I'd use here.

Oh really, why? Obviously not talking about Bar Louie.

We have some incredibly unique restaurants. The town has become a foodie destination. It'll never approach cities like New York because of the sheer size, but we have dozens of incredible locally owned restaurants.

For unique, my favorite would be City House.

The best city in America? Nah.
this was in response to the 'houston is all that' thread.

i moved from houston to nashville and my quality of life is so much better its fricking ridiculous to put both in the same sentence.

would not move back.
would not live there for any amount of money.

I'm not saying Nashville is better than NYC either guys.

I do think its top 3 in the entire South 100%.

depends on the definition of 'unique'.

nashville has an insane amount of patio restaurants and with good weather 90% of the year, those patios are always booming.

personally you cant beat pharmacy for a great patio and food.

Just thinking of the "major cities" off the top of my head (no order or ranking)

Charleston
Savannah
New Orleans
Asheville
Atlanta
Nashville
Charlotte
Memphis

Am I missing any? I can see where one could put Nashville in and I could also see where it's left out .

even with nashville as large as it is, traffic is nothing like comparable cities.
This isn't true. I just moved from Nashville to Columbus, and although Columbus has a larger population, the traffic is much better.

Nashville needs a better by-pass system for having three major highways converging on it.

That being said, Nashville is a great city.

New Orleans hell no, I love Nola, not close to others in terms of livability
Asheville - great, but small and won't have big economy/companies like a bigger city
Atlanta - fricking hell no. WHAT
Nashville - yep
Charlotte - clean, good econonmy, but has no culture/flavor. But good city.
Memphis -

nashville 'traffic no problem' areas:
- brentwood
- franklin
- belle meade
- sylvan park
- west nashville
- bellevue
- east nashville
- germantown

nashville 'traffic' areas:
- goodletsville
- hendersonville
- antioch/smyrna/lavergne/murfreesboro
- mt. juliet/lebanon
- clarksville

i've been here 20 years (west side of town) and in all that time, aside from the occasional snow have had very little traffic issues.

Depends on what you define as the "South", but I'd throw Louisville in.
Bardstown Rd. alone makes it a great city.

I mean it's not Chicago, Atlanta, or LA, but the traffic is pretty bad for a midsize city.

again, cite your traffic details.

commute 20 miles from west nashville -> heart of downtown on I40 is always a 20-30 minute drive.

ALWAYS

highly doubt hordes of 21 year old girls are moving to nashville to become singers like people going to LA to become actors/actresses

eh, maybe not in that number but it's definitely rampant down here.

In reality the level ot female hotness is due to there being multiple colleges either in nashville, or within a 30 minute drive. Graduates are no longer moving away. Belmont, Vandy, Libscomb and MTSU are all right here.
