Indeed life was better and people in general happier. Downside to that is, we wouldnt have the information we do today. Therefore, the US govt would run us over even worse than they already do. We'd all be sheep and essentially prisoners by now. Quite the paradox. Information, our greatest threat towards each other yet our greatest ally against our govt. In theory, the same holds true for guns.

Nah, Guns, like information, don't use themselves. It relies on the user. I get your point though.
If you want to depress yourself even further, realize that Bastiat wrote "The Law" in 1850, talking about what is essentially the Matrix (every man a cog to be used by, and replaced by, the state as necessary, for the purposes of the state.) 100 years before Orwell published 1984. The Prisoner was televised in the 60s, describing much the same. We're cooked, in the name of "safety" that 19th amendment voters crave.

But he was only going 2mph. That’s not deadly.

This is bullshite.
Child carseat laws are LAWS.
Had that kid been in a seat, he wouldn't have fallen out. Period.
Not disagreeing but the way I read it sounds like they may have been switching from one pump to another.
If they never had the child restrained then they need to be punished

Actually, I believe information is being used more today to manipulate us than ever. Although we live in an age where we should be getting smarter and more cynical, we're actually getting dumber and believe everything that aligns with the narrative we want to believe.
Each side is just as bad as the other.
Due to my job I knew much of the DOGE stuff was nothing but pure BS and told many people, no one believed me. Turns out I was 100% right, even that hasn't changed folk's minds, they'd believe it all over again.
