Yeah I see a lot of excuses for truck drivers to camp out in the left lane and cause a dangerous situation behind them.

But there is no excuse for it. It’s lazy driving.

The left lane will always be for speeders. Yes it's illegal and you don't have to agree with it. But what is dangerous is when a line of cars, who have been flowing along at 80 mph for MILES, suddenly have to slow down to 65 because the "professional" driver needs to pass the Swift rookie trying to find the right gear. That line of cars then gets frustrated at the semi barely plodding along, which leads to right side passing and that semi being "trapped" in the left lane.

Well, you're wrong. Vehicles going 10-20mph below the speed limit cause more accidents than vehicles going 10-20mph above the speed limit.

And the left lane isn't for speeders. The left lane is for passing slower vehicles in the right lane. It's no wonder there are so many idiots on the road, including many truck drivers.

Which is why taking more than 10-15 seconds to execute a pass should NEVER happen. Yet it does. Trucks routinely speed match along I-12 and cause heavy congestion behind them.

That being said, a lot of freeways in the US need to be widened to 6 or even 8 lanes. Trucks and especially RVs need to be restricted to the right two lanes.

Well, I hope that 10-15 seconds doesn't make you late to wherever you're going, Mario Andretti.

1MPH over the adjacent truck takes far more than 10-15 seconds....it takes up to 5 minutes to pass another slow moving truck. Truck drivers like to think that their freight is more important than the safety of other motorists.

Make excuses all you want, but this happens too much.

This claims are always suspicious to me... the industry has been claiming a trucker shortage for 30 years... if pay matches the job requirements, then labor will inevitably move there.

That's right. I'm on the chemical shipping supply chain side and hear about driver shortages regularly.

Our carriers are trying hard to find and hire new drivers but there aren't new drivers entering the driving force... at least not at the levels we need them.

Mostly what happens - they hire drivers away from another carrier and it's just drivers moving around from company to company without any real growth.

It's been tough on us since January.

Thank you for making my point. Now stay in the right lane.
