In the U.S.*

More news that backs the need to get vaccinated

quote:

The 125,682 "breakthrough" cases in 38 states found by NBC News represent less than .08 percent of the 164.2 million-plus people who have been fully vaccinated since January.

quote:

Health officials continue to caution that breakthrough cases are expected, extremely rare and not a sign of vaccine failure. For example, according to Erin McHenry, spokesperson for the Minnesota Department of Health, "Our most recent data shows that 99.9 percent of Minnesotans who are fully vaccinated have not contracted the virus. Even among those very rare breakthrough cases, we have seen very few illnesses serious enough to require hospitalization."

My mom is one of them. She was vaccinated early on and has it now.

I got the first shot 3 weeks ago and an 4 days into positive right now. Wish I did it sooner

I wouldn't put much stock in anything NBC reported.

Thank you. She was doing pretty bad. Blood pressure tanked and her sodium was really low. She got the monoclonal antibodies last Thursday and is slowly getting better. Just really weak

Most states aren't even reporting breakthrough cases if they don't result in a hospitalization or death, per CDC guidance.

Thats not true, most states are reporting them.

If it was true that this was only from half the states then the percentage of people who have been vaccinated then gotten covid would be doubles to 1.6% which doesn't change the point that the vaccines are working very effectively.

I’m pro-vaccine, but I don’t think using a denominator of an entire subset of a population is relevant.

This is the same type of argument as saying 99.99% of the unvaccinated people under 60 aren’t in the hospital right now.

% of vaccinated people currently with Covid vs. % of unvaccinated people currently with Covid would be a more relevant comparison.

So we should either age backwards or get the vaccine. I'll take that into account and weigh my options

Can you drive 150 mph and get away with it? No

This is a public safety issue, not a personal freedom issue.

You couldn't be more wrong. Get all the shots you want. I'm not. I've had the wu flu, so I'm about 6.7 times more immune than you.

It's rare, just like breakthrough cases are in those who have been vaccinated. Antibodies definitely lessen your chance of getting it by a huge margin.

Well I haven't had covid and have been vaccinated, so I probably wont get it at all.

I really hope you don't now mind your own business and don't worry about those of us not willing to get it.

Well I haven't had covid either, that I know of and have been around the general public in decent volume every day since the start of it. I'm not vaccinated, early thirties, healthy, and I probably won't catch it at all either or I won't notice if I do. Plenty of people I have been in direct contact with, without a mask on, have had covid. I have never been tested to date. I am not worried about it at all. Do what you need to protect yourself, as I agree there are a lot of people that should get the vaccine.

Thanks. I hope you don't get it again either and I hope you dont have the side effects from covid like some I know, I would be miserable not being able to taste or smell for months, thats actually the main reason I don't want it personally.

Luckily I never had any of that. I like food too much to not taste.
