Would this be the worst loss a defending super bowl champion has had?

Could be.
Eagles are the only team I can find that lost by more as a previous Super Bowl participant (not winner obviously). They lost by 42 to the Seahawks in 2005.
ETA: Rams also lost by 39 to the Chiefs in 2002
