In recent memory, it has to be Johnathan Sullivan, no doubt. He was the 6th pick in the 1st round of the 2003 NFL Draft by the Saints, and was a HUGE bust by all accounts. Can you guys think of a worse 1st round pick by the Saints? Especially with players who the Saints could have gotten instead: Terrell Suggs, Troy Polamalu, Kevin Williams, Marcus Trufant, etc.

This. We picked a KICKER/PUNTER at no. 11 OVERALL.

He made 4 field goals in his entire career...

I can definitely see Russell Erxleben challenging for the top spot, although Sullivan was drafted higher in the 1st round.

We drafted a kicker at #11, five spots higher argument doesn't really work.

Erxleben was no doubt the worst pick. Sullivan was a huge bust but not necessarily the equal worst pick cause the pick made sense at least.

Sullivan made sense at the time and did SOMETHING.

Erxleban was a fricking kicker. And he was an unmitigated disaster. Did nothing.

He challenges every year for the worst 1st Rounder EVER.

Lol Fun Bunch, what exactly did Sullivan do? As I recall, he didn't even have a sack in his career? Lol, at least Erxleben scored a handful of field goals for the Saints, that's more than Sullivan ever did!

very true.

I guess what pissed me off was the most was that we had two first round picks the year we traded up to get Sullivan.

I think we had #17 and #18 and moved up to #6 to take him

77 tackles and 1.5 sacks, and a forced fumble o and 3 pass deflections.

At least Erxleben made a contribution to the team for a few years.

Lindsay Scott and Larry Burton were wide receivers who literally could not catch a fricking football.
