I bet they could do something really cool with part of top of the dome making a lot of that curvature windows.

play in tiger stadium for 3 years

I don't know if it would take three full seasons if they immediately started construction in the offseason, but if you want to rebuild the Dome on the same spot (which is the only location it should be), then you absolutely go play in another stadium for 2-3 seasons.

Tiger Stadium is the logical choice given size and proximity, but if scheduling didn't allow for that, the Saints could also do a road tour of sorts: play half the games in TS and a few elsewhere in the state/region - there are lots of Saints fans in Mississippi and stadiums with 60K+ capacity in Oxford and Starkville. Cajun Field in Laffy holds over 40K and Independence Stadium in Shreveport holds nearly 50K.

Could be a chance for Saints fans who don't venture down to NOLA very often (or ever) to check out the Black & Gold in person...but hopefully that's a long way off.

if they ever did new, it would have to be a blow up and rebuild in same spot IMO.

exactly. the location is perfect. They would have to play somewhere like Tiger Stadium during construction.

Where else would even be an option?

I doubt they politically (or even legally) could have done it, but they missed the boat on not building a new stadium on the old Iberville Projects site when they tore them down. That would have been a perfect location with enough room. Instead, Iberville is now just a newer subsidized shithole.

Well definitely wait until Brees is long gone and the team is back to losing. You don't want a team built for the playoffs to play a season, or multiple seasons, without a home game. That's not a winning strategy.

Using private money, build all the stadiums or domes you want to. Using taxpaper money frick that. That ship has sailed.

ETA- retractable roof in south Louisiana? are you kidding me, that's like the first time you buy a car with a sunroof. It's cool and all, but its never use, waste of money.

Both of those stadiums have had massive renovations done to them to the point where they are modernized now.

I’d argue the Dome is more modernized than either Lambeau or Soldier field

Unfortunately either Kenner or more likely the East. Most major markets now build well outside the city because the land is much cheaper. It would prob go right where Six Flags is/was.

I rather them play in the dome forever than move it out there.

I've heard this plan but to me it has issues.

1)Parking

2)Lack of hotels in the immediate vicinity (compared to Dome location).
I don't think the Dome is going anywhere because people are stuck on the Dome and love it, that's why they did all the renovations. Even if they built a brand new stadium in another location the Dome would never be torn down imo because it is iconic and is precious to New Orleans and Orleanians like the Astro Dome is to Houston, they'd turn it into condos or some kind of tourist attraction.

But to answer your question you just build a huge parking lot, I think there is room for all of that. You add more hotels also to that area, I read on NOLA news last week I think where they were talking about building a hotel or hotels in that River Wharf area. I mean there are lots of things you can do in that area that would solve the problems you are talking about, but a new stadium in that area is still right around everything the media or that visitors need, it's still very close to everything and just 5 minutes from the French quarter by a taxi or an Uber. But I don't think it will ever happen anyways, we are just discussing another area uptown where they could potentially build a new stadium, and that location has come up in the past on here and even in old Times-Picayune sports articles or stories that I read.

There's no need to try and keep up with all these new stadiums. After a few years when the new wears off no one really gives a crap about them anymore. Just keep renovating and modernizing the dome and make it an historical landmark like Fenway or Lambeau. It would be nice if they could figure out a way to incorporate some natural light (Not the beer) which I think is part of the study.

I like it downtown too, but i have two big gripes. First, its not close enough to the quarter to walk. Second, tailgating. New Orleans should be the tailgating mecca of football. Instead, you see a handful of people fighting over a scrap of ground under an overpass with just enough room to grill a few hotdogs.

I'm probably in the minority but I rather go to bar and have a few drinks or brunch than set up a tailgate for a noon game.
