He’s actually a great every down safety. He’s an absolutely terrible player in clutch time.

You will never tackle, much less slow down Kittle with arm tackling him. You hit him low and wrap up.

Lol @ you. If Williams didn't try to wrap up then how do explain his glove getting stuck in Kittle's facemask? He went in & wrapped up but was unfortunate that his hands got around the facemask allowing his glove to get stuck in there. Then continued to fight for yards with Williams glove being stuck so it really made it look even worse, like Williams was grabbing & pulling the facemask.

Exactly. IF you want to see great play as long as the game isn't on the line, Marcus Williams is the player.

HE WILL BE THE SOLE REASON WE LOSE A PLAYOFF GAME IN THE LAST SECONDS.

Enjoy the disappointment when it happens. I'm going to enjoy the melt. It will be 10x worse than mine.

Well other than bad tackling attempt today, what other play in the last 2 seasons has he given up a big play late in the game?

Here’s what pro football focus had to say just a few weeks ago about our supposed terrible safety.... lmao

NEW ORLEANS SAINTS: S MARCUS WILLIAMS

The highest-graded safety in the NFL isn’t a household name, but he really should be. Marcus Williams currently sits at the top with a 91.4 grade and has been playing better than any big-name safety you can think of. Williams has been on lockdown in coverage, with just 73 yards allowed in 445 coverage snaps, and he has more combined interceptions and pass breakups (8) than receptions allowed (7).

He's a safety. Do you know why he is called a safety? I'll let you figure it out...... if you are that simple minded.

LOL...So you believe the safety was responsible for covering Kittle on that play? Go back and watch the play again. He's responsible for assisting and covering the DEEPEST threat. Ummm, do you believe that was Kittle? You don't realize he had to pull up from helping with the WR to come back and assist in tackling Kittle?

You love when our guys get open and make plays but you must assume we the only team in the league that will do that? They executed that play well and Kittle just took advantage of his man diving at air.

You don't get it. What you said here is 100% correct. My OP is at the point where he gets to Kittle. He makes no attempt to tackle Kittle. He cannot and will not make any attempt to tackle anyone. No matter who the player is.

Kittle being open and making the catch is whatever. Getting dragged 25 yards and tacking on a facemask is the problem.

Are you? That was all on #22 for not tackling. We would have been fine giving up a 5 yard gain but he dove like a dumbass and cost us the game

Yep. That play is a non factor if we just make that tackle.

This!

And for the record, Williams wasn't the reason we lost this game. He will definitely be the reason if we lose
late in the playoffs. That I'm sure of.

The problem is that the man in coverage was out of position for no reason. Kittle is too big to hide behind the line and he clearly rolled out to make a play. He was open and should have been tackled for no more than a 5 yard gain. Yes, they get the 1st down but the D can still fight to keep them out of FG range. When the safety has to come back and make the tackle, Kittle was already well within the kickers range.

Marcus first contacted him at the 47.

Correction: Kittle was at about the 45 yard line when Williams tried to tackle him but Gardner-Johson should get ALL the blame. He had a chance to make the tackle at the 35....20 yards before Willaims got to Kittle.

Stop with giving accurate info. Fans here are S&M fans. They need to be painfully let down in the playoffs.

This thread is so stupid. If CB does his job and tackles Kittle after the reception then we aren’t even having this conversation.

I’m no fan of Marcus, but blaming him for this play is like blaming Brees for scoring too fast.

Gardner-Johnson bit too hard to the inside thinking Kittle was running a slant when it was an option route. He should have been playing more leverage to Kittle's outside shoulder. Play the receiver in that situation to where more help is. Gardner-Johnson tried to play hero ball & got burned. Had he played Kittle's outside shoulder, he is in better position to play the ball & make the tackle. Even if Kittle uses the slant option, there would have been more pursuit defenders towards the middle of the field.

Ya'll are saying MW gives up big plays late to lose the games or give up late leads. What big play before tonight in the last 2 seasons has he done it?
